Review: The Witches of BlackBrook by Tish Thawer

The Witches of BlackBrook by Tish Thawer
(Witches of BlackBrook #1)
Published by: Amber Leaf Publishing
Publication date: June 23rd 2015
Genres: New Adult, Paranormal Romance

Through space and time, sisters entwined. Lost then found, souls remain bound.

Three sisters escape the Salem witch trials when the eldest casts a spell that hurdles their souls forward through time. After centuries separated, fate has finally reunited them in the present day.

One the healer, one the teacher, and one the deceiver.

Will their reunion return their full powers, or end their souls journey forever?

A Witches of BlackBrook novel.

I was extremely intrigued by this book by it's cover alone, and I'm happy to report that the story within was just as beautiful.
It was an exciting mix of mystery and magic, with a bit of romance and action thrown in for good measure. I was enthralled from the very beginning, and as the story unfolded the more enchanted I was by this spellbinding tale.
I enjoyed being taken back in time to see Trin and her sisters in the past, showing just how close they were, and it only made her need to bring them together all the more important. I had an inkling that there was something up with a certain character, but I never would have imagined that she was as devious as she turned out to be. It was a major twist that changed everything about this book and took me completely by surprise.
This book was about a fight between good and evil, about the survival of witches, but most of all it was a wonderful story about hope and a bond that stood the test of time. It was an uplifting story that warmed my heart.

Award Winning Author, Tish Thawer, writes paranormal romances for all ages. Her magickal elements and detailed world-building are a welcome constant in every novel.

Before becoming a writer she worked as a computer consultant, a photographer, and a graphic designer. She also operate a custom glass etching business, in addition to being a wife and the mother of three wonderful children.

She's have been a fan of the paranormal for as long as she can remember.  Anything to do with superpowers, myth and magic has always held a special place in her heart.  From her first paranormal cartoon, Isis, to the phenomenon that is Twilight, this genre has always been a part of her life.

A FAQ: "How do you pronounce her last name?"
Answer: Think "Bower" or "Thow-er". It's Persian!

Reviews Tour: Excerpt: Aqua by M.A. George

By- M.A. George
Genre- YA Paranormal
Publication Date- April 16th, 2014

Meet Layla McKelland:
Novelist (unpublished, but cut her some slack…seventeen is a bit early to despair),
Slightly neurotic introvert (Alright, let’s be honest…there’s no “slightly” about it),
International Woman of Mystery, and…
Okay, just scratch the bio.

The only real “mystery” in Layla’s life is why her father has never been on the scene.  Or why her mother drags Layla to a new coastal home every year.

Nothing about the latest hometown seems too newsworthy…until a routine day at the beach leaves Layla questioning whether she’s read one too many paranormal fantasy novels.  The plot thickens when a random guy claims to know things about her father—a bizarre claim he backs up with an equally impossible stunt.  And Layla soon finds herself on the wrong side of a mysterious attempted drowning…on her own kitchen floor.

When all is done, Layla will attest that fact is far stranger than fiction.  And nothing in real life is ever as transparent as it seems…Not even water.

Especially not water.

Exclusive Excerpt

Wallace Bryce Talbert was dead. She was standing next to him, and distantly, she was aware of the blood spilling out, spreading to seep around her toes, sinking into the crack of her feet.
They had hardwood floors. She could mop. She should mop. Except it was a crime scene. You didn’t just mop up a crime scene. There were procedures to follow and—her stomach heaved suddenly, and she whirled, her foot sliding in the spreading blood as she scrambled for the trash bin. She’s still in the dress she wore to their engagement party, her hair half down in, makeup smudged.
Hair falls in the trashcan, and she gags as vomit catches in it.
She straightened slowly and made a face. Wonderful. There was now a dead body on the floor and vomit in her hair. The night was definitely on a downward spiral.
There is a sharp knock on the front door, but Charlie doesn't move to answer.
She shouldn't have called Ella, but it happened before she could think, while Wallace was still gasping, his eye shocked and angry while she fumbled for her phone and stood over him.
The voice breaks the cocoon of distance, and she draws in a shuddering breath.
"Oh holy fuck." EJ breathes the curse like a prayer and stumbles across the room to grab Charlie, yanking her around. Her eyes and hands are frantic as she looks over the other woman, and a hysterical giggle works it's way up Charlie's throat and bubbles over.
EJ goes still and watchful, her sharp blue eyes locked onto Charlie's. "Charlie, I need you to focus on me. Tell me what happened."
The words snap her laughter off and Charlie shudders, a full body spasm that makes EJ's hands on her shoulders tighten for a heartbeat.

Exclusive look at The Blood Scion

This series was exciting in so many ways. I'm not really drawn to zombie fiction, but Andrews delivered a story that was more than just blood, guts and gore. It had depth and heart, and was a great apocalyptic love story with plenty of action, making it one of those series that will satisfy every type of reader.
I had the pleasure of reading each book in this series as they were released, so for a recap of my reviews you can check them out here - The World Without a FutureThe Horde Without EndThe Future Without Hope & The Ruin of the World.
I could not wait to give this box set a read, because I was intrigued by the bonus material pertaining to this series, and to get a sneak peek into Blood Scion.
I loved that Andrews tied up a few loose ends as I did find the end of the series left me feeling like there should have been more, and she gave me just that with Reclaiming the West. I also loved that she gave me more insight into certain subplots that were mentioned in the series, and of course who wouldn't love reliving Ren and Finn's first kiss...
So thank you, Naz, you have given me everything I wanted and needed from this amazing series. Loved it!!

All hell is breaking loose in the edge-of-your-seat follow-up to Havoc and Perdition fromNew York Times bestselling author Ann Aguirre…

The prison ship Perdition has become a post-battle charnel house with only a handful of Dred’s soldiers still standing and now being hunted by Silence’s trained tongueless assassins. Forging an uneasy alliance with mercenary commander Vost—who is their only chance at escape—the Dread Queen will do whatever it takes to end her life sentence on Perdition and keep the survivors alive long enough to cobble together a transport capable of getting them off station.

If Dred and her crew can win the deadly game of cat and mouse, the payoff is not only life but freedom—a prize sweeter than their wildest dreams. Yet the sadistic Silence would rather destroy Perdition than let a single soul slip from her grasp…

Praise for the Dred Chronicles:

"There's so much action, so much adventure, and more than that, it's great writing."—USA Today

"Sirantha Jax fans may be intrigued to see what befell Jael after his ill-considered actions there, and new lead Dred is a strong linchpin for a promising new series."—Publishers Weekly

"Spectacularly and spell-bindingly perfect with high octane action that keeps you on the edge of your seat and a romance that is surprisingly sweet and tender in a harsh and
unforiving setting...This is honestly one of the best SF romance series I have read." —Book Pushers
They didn’t speak until they had put a fair amount of distance behind them, then Dred signaled her desire to pause by tapping his ankle. He couldn’t turn fully because the ducts had narrowed, but he glanced over his shoulder.
“You all right?”
“Just . . . spooked.” The somber tone told him he hadn’t been alone in what he felt, watching those crazy, tongue-less bastards.
“It’s different now,” he said.
“With what she did to Queensland . . . she seems larger than life. I’ve been afraid before, but . . . not quite like this.”
The words were barely a whisper, and they roused an answering prickle of gooseflesh on his arms.
“I know. There’s run-of-the-mill evil, like Priest and Mungo. And then there’s Silence.”
“It’s like she can do worse than kill me. Rationally, I know that’s not true—”
“But it’s uncanny the way she’s last one still standing, moving through the carnage.” He didn’t say it out loud, but he thought, Like Death itself.
Dred nodded. “I’m still here, too, but I’m not the Dread Queen anymore.”
If it’s any consolation, I don’t miss her.”
“Me either,” she whispered.
There was no space to touch her as he wanted to, and it wasn’t the time anyway, so Jael continued on. They slid out of the ducts near the closet, but when he opened it, there were no droids plugged in. He choked out a curse. It was impossible to predict when a bot would come back, and it was dangerous to wait out in the open. They desperately needed some intel about how many men Silence had left, how often they patrolled, and where, but with manpower as scarce as it had become on their end, recon had to wait.
“Back up?” Dred whispered.
He nodded. This time, they found a way in that gave them vantage over their target, so they’d know when a bot returned. He’d just finished fitting the vent panel in place behind them when he heard the familiar, shuffling sound of Silence’s men. From her expression, Dred registered it, too, and she practically stopped breathing. The fact that her killers were roving freely must signify that she believed herself the undisputed ruler of Perdition.
When they rounded the corner and came into sight, he stifled a surprised sound. This group was huge, compared to the usual numbers, ten this time, and horror jolted through him like lightning when he realized they were carried a human-sized bundle. They’d wrapped their captive in dark fabric, so he couldn’t tell anything about the person, but the worst part was, he or she was still moving, thrashing against his bonds.
Who is that? And why the hell would Silence want someone taken alive?

And don’t miss the previous books in the Dred Chronicles!
