Notes on an Orange Burial by Greg Levin

It’s not surprising that Jona Gold has recently lost his wife and his job, nor that several members of the local medical establishment and police department consider him dangerous. He is, after all, a poet. After getting what looks to be his big publishing break following a freak telemarketing call, everything seems set to turn around for Jona. But when an incident of minor terrorism threatens to take it all away, our fearless poet is compelled to take contractual matters into his own highly incapable hands.

Notes on an Orange Burial is a witty tale of the angst of a writer. Greg Levin, uses hyperbole, clever rhymes, hilarious expository rap, and irony to portray the unquenchable passion of a poet. The main character, Jona, incorporates everything in his life into his burning quest to become published, including marriage, employment, and even the rule of law. Greg Levin creates unforgettable characters as foils in Jona's unstoppable path to self-imagined literary greatness. The book is reminiscent of Catcher in the Rye and Catch 22 in its slightly off-balance style. A very funny and absorbing read.

The Debutant Detective by Lisa McDivitt

Samantha Robinson has questionable fashion sense, a dorky sense of humor, and keen observational skills. Her nosiness and passion for murder novels has her believing there’s always a mystery to be solved. Much to her frustration, her parents’ new money has made Samantha a shoe-in as a debutante, even though it’s the last thing Samantha would ever want to be. She doesn’t want to spend any more time with the catty rich girls who have made her life miserable since junior high. But just when she is going to tell her family that there’s no way she’ll be a deb, the head of the debutante world is murdered. As a debutante-elect and relative outsider, the police department’s lead investigator encourages Sam to become a part of the very society that has ostracized her for her entire life.

In her new role as a secret agent during the summer between high school and college, Sam finds that she actually grows to like parts of the society on which she’s supposed to be spying. But her investigation causes mayhem in her personal life. Will she be able to solve the murder, pull her family back together, adjust to her new position as a member of high-society, evade a killer, and get the right guy?

Tourist by Lucas Banter

Imagine gravity was not simply a feature of an organic planet, but a complicated system maintained by a network of large machines. Imagine the Earth was supported by these machines, providing the energy and the subsystem for Earth to function as it does. What would happen as those machines aged? Would they begin to wear down over time? Would they eventually fail? Could they be repaired?

Just before being arrested on suspicion of murder, a young man named Ian Sheridan discovers that he is able to call upon strange, destructive powers. As he is chased around the globe by the authorities, he takes asylum with a group of people, four hundred years old, that try to convince him his abilities are a result of the machines and their failing health. Ian soon realizes he is the only person who can repair these ailing machines and put the world right again… or can he? As he searches for the machines, he must overcome the demons of his past and the idea that he is simply a pawn in something much larger than himself.

Change of Pace by Sofia Essen

Or at least that’s what the normally unadventurous Anna Cox does in a moment of uncharacteristic spontaneity. When she panics as she belatedly realizes that not booking a hotel room in a country she knows nothing about might not have been the best or smartest idea, the charming and easy on the eyes Englishman in the seat next to her comes to her rescue – he takes her to the rural island village in Crete that he calls home.

As Anna settles into village life, she learns that change, even the unwanted and unexpected kind, can be a good thing. She begins to see that there is always more to any story or person than meets the eye, including herself. In Crete, where time moves differently and days float and blend into one another, Anna finds the courage to discover who she really is, open up to strangers, and to fall in love without holding back even though she might get hurt.
