After a fatal hit and run accident, Ella Monroe fears that she’s lost more than her beloved parents. Horrifying visions of a past life and a disturbing voice in her head have psychiatric professionals convinced that she’s lost her sanity as well. But when Kale--a dark and handsome stranger with a mysterious past--reveals the true meaning of her visions and the tremendous power she wields through them, Ella must come to terms with the devastating truths of her own past, while eluding an ancient Dark Prince who seeks to control not only her future, but all of mankind’s, by means of abilities that Ella is only beginning to understand.

Enter the shrouded world of an age old battle between an ancient race known as the Immortals and their bitter enemy Laurent, the so-called Dark Prince, who commands an army of half-breed vampires known as Chorý. Both sides have been desperately searching for the prophesied emergence of the Arc, a clairvoyant with unparalleled power to recall the past and a soothsayer with clear vision into the future.

The Council of Immortals has sworn to protect the Arc, whom they have identified as young Ella Monroe, a college freshman from Virginia living quietly and unaware of her powers or her past. But a renegade Chorý has other plans for the protection of a girl he has loved through the ages. Can Kale convince Ella of who she is, what she is destined to become, and what he once meant to her? Is he truly the best protector to shield the world from the devastating misuse of her powers that Laurent is bent on controlling? Or will the forbidden love they share and Kale’s cursed condition as a wretched and hated Chorý be used against them both?

This paranormal romance told from the heroine’s perspective builds in intensity and intrigue to a finale you won’t see coming. Heart pounding action mixed with heartwarming friendships and heartbreaking romance will leave you breathless and begging for more.

REVIEW
My feelings are so mixed after reading this story. There were things about this book that made me love it but at the same time left me wanting more, as strange as that sounds. I loved that there wasn’t a heavy romantic element that fueled this book, but I do wish there had been a bit more romance. I liked the hint at a love tri-angle, but again, I wish there had been more passion and romance.
I read the prequel, Immortal Heart, before reading this book, and Kale seemed so much more fierce and determined, but in this book he kind of faded into the background. It may have been because this story was told from Ella’s POV. I think if there had been more from Kale I would have been more immersed in the story. Having said that, I really did enjoy that this book didn’t rely solely on the paranormal elements to keep it flowing; in fact, at one point the book felt more like a contemporary thriller, and I forgot about the vampire/eternal beings that were a major part of this story.
What I really love about this story was the unique and very refreshing spin that Iversen put on the vampire myth. I have read so many vampire novels, I’ve even written one myself, and they all have a very similar feel, but this one was so very different. Apart from the fact that the Chory drank blood, I would never have even pegged it as a vampire novel. Of course, there are also the Eternals, and Ella’s role as the Arc that just made this book more interesting. It enthralled me (excuse the pun!) and I really did enjoy the exciting plotline.
The ending wasn’t a major cliffhanger, but it left me wanting more, and I couldn’t wait to see what would happen in the next book.

What must he overcome to protect her?

With no clue of what to do next and the responsibility of looking after Alex and Mia as promised, Kale is up to his ears in problems and no solutions. How will Kale save Ella, keep Alex and Mia safe, control Jace as well as control the Bloodlust that creeps beneath the surface waiting to be released? Will Kale be Ella’s savior or will he convict her to a fate worse than the one Laurent has already promised her?

What truths will she learn?

Ella knows that the choices she makes affects not only her but everyone else around her, but what about the choices made to find her? Ella learns the truth about the death of her parents, learns that the ones she thought she could trust aren’t so trustworthy after all.
How will Ella handle these betrayals, and will she be able to sacrifice what is necessary to obtain eternal life?

REVIEW

This book was extremely exciting. It was a little darker, and I felt more of a connection with the characters this time around. I loved being immersed in the world of the Council and Eternals, and getting to know Laurent a little better. Even though he was the evil that everyone was protecting Ella from, I think that in a strange twisted way his heart was in the right place, as far as Ella was concerned. He opened up to her and told her the truth about the events that shattered her world. It may have been for his own gain, but I liked that he opened her eyes to the reality of the situation.
The multiple POVs in this book made my head spin a bit, though. I enjoyed the beginning, with the POV switch between key characters like Alex, Jace, Kale and Ella, but when secondary characters took the lead I was distracted because I was more interested in what the main players were up to at those times. Ana and Darke’s roles in this book raised many questions, and the ending…OMG! What a curveball!! I never expected it at ALL, and it just shook things up for everyone involved in this story. I’m so intrigued to find out what will happen when Ana’s progeny is revealed.

More than a century after the tragedy of Hélène's death and before Ella found Kale bruised and broken on her doorstep, Kale moved through the world in a haze of personal punishment allowing it to consume him. Until his friend, Detective Deacon, a newly infected Chorý calls on him for a favor.

In this prequel to the Few Are Angels series, Kale is thrown into a world of human blood trafficking and is introduced to a Chorý that offers him a chance at happiness— in blood.

 REVIEW

I was immediately intrigued by this prequel. It was a promising start to a series that combined all the elements I love about paranormal romances, but with a refreshing twist to the norm.

However, I did find that as this story developed, I became a bit bored with it. The characters were all great, and the plotline was interesting, but something about it just didn’t hold my attention. At times it was a little too predictable, and Sola and Kale’s relationship was a bit strange. I felt that certain events in this book could have been deleted as they really didn’t make any change to the main story, and they had only been included as fillers.

I am excited to get into the real story of Kale’s search for the Arc, and the history the involved Helene, Laurent and the Eternal Council.
