Blog Tour: Review + #Giveaway: Fractured Lines by Jen McLaughlin #FINNClub

The lines we once crossed so easily have widened and torn us apart…

Once upon a time I thought Finn and I would live happily ever after, but real life doesn't always have a happy ending. He's testing my trust, and I'm losing faith in the man I thought I'd spend the rest of my life with, and there’s nothing I do can stop it. He’s the one I trusted to keep me safe, but now he’s the source of my greatest pain…

Forgiveness is fragile, and some fractures never fully heal...

One mistake—a slip in a moment of weakness—might cost me everything I've worked so hard for. The thing about trust is that it's a lot easier to lose than it is to build. Just as I'm about to give up and surrender to the demons from my past, an unexpected threat reminds me what I'm best at: protecting the woman I love. Whether or not she wants me, I will fight for Carrie and our daughter, and I will keep them safe—no matter the cost.

Even if I have to put my life and my heart on the line.

REVIEW

Carrie and Finn. I have been with them every step of the way and to me they are NOT just characters in a book. So, when I saw them so broken and everything falling apart around them, my heart shattered. I wanted to rush in and make things right. To fix Finn and take away all of Carrie's hurt, but all I could do was hope that the love that these two amazing people shared would be enough to pull them from their abyss of misery. But, of course, the road to forgiveness and acceptance is filled with obstacles that not even love can overcome.

I was quite surprised by Senator Wallington's attitude change. It was great to see that he wanted Carrie and Finn to be together. He wanted them to work things out. And there was a glimmer of hope that all would be fine when they finally connected again, even if it may not have been the best thing for Finn's recovery at the time. I truly believed that Finn wasn't kidding himself when he said all he needed was Carrie - that she was able to heal him - and it was obvious that being together made him better. It was just so damn difficult because when trust is broken, it's one of the most difficult things to fix.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to slap Carrie or hug her. I could understand how hurt and angry she was, and she had more than herself to look out for, but I just hated that she had to "punish" Finn to make things right. I could see that she hated it too, and when things got even more complicated I was on the brink of giving up on that hope I was holding onto so tightly.

One of the biggest problems between Carrie and Finn was that she wasn't able to fully understand what he was going through, and him not confiding in her from the beginning made things even worse. And as tragic as the events of this book became, I was glad that Carrie and Finn were able to find each other again, and that, in a way, something as terrible as PTSD brought them closer.

This story was a little different to the Out of Line series, and I enjoyed seeing these characters in a more adult role, with greater responsibilities and concerns. But I also loved the little touches that McLaughlin brought to this standalone which connected with some of my favorite things about the series. I wonderful story filled with hope and heart. I loved it!
