King Englewood reads the prophecy every day since he murdered the royal family, all of them. Or so he thought. The three year old twins escaped that night thirteen years ago, but his men are closing in to finish the job before they can turn sixteen and activate the magic spell making his worst fears a reality. A Protector in Ter Chadain and a royal heir with claims to the throne he now held.
Logan and Teah Lassain witness the violent murder of their family and narrowly escape. They now find themselves not only thrust into the revolution, but the keys to the reunification of Ter Chadain.
Bestowed with the powers and spirits of past Protectors, Logan must learn to control both before their memories destroy him. Wrenched with anger and the desire for revenge on the man responsible for decimating his life, King Englewood, Logan must keep to the path of greater good and gather support for the revolution from the dukes and duchesses of Ter Chadain.
Teah is trained by the Zele Magus, an order of sorceresses, to control and accept her newly discovered magical powers enabling her to take the throne. Struggling, she must also ask the question...what happens when there are two Protectors of Ter Chadain? Two Protectors are not foretold in the prophecies....

EXCERPT

Teah burst into her room, nearly colliding Zele Astoria. The bedroll lay open, the swords and the sheathed metal rod exposed.

Astoria began to weave, but Teah released a rush of magic, sending the woman sprawling.
The Zele Magus got to her feet slowly, gathering her strength, and unleashed a weave that slammed Teah up over her bed. Teah hung suspended over her bed, pinned tightly against the cold stone wall.

“Caldora warned me about you, but I never envisioned you would have such use of magic or the possession of such weaponry. Only the Protector would possess swords such as these.” She nodded to the swords on the bed. She absently slid her hand along the pommel of one of the swords, not giving much attention to Teah hanging.
Teah fought with all her might to get herself free, but her struggling produced no results and only drained her energy. Realizing the futility, she turned her attempts inward and magic surged through her. A flash of light burst from her, freeing her from her bonds.

The blast also sent Astoria tumbling near the door. The Headmistress immediately regained her feet and fled out the door.

Teah pulled the silver rod from its sheath and it instantly expanded to full size. She was already pulling the string back to her cheek as she stepped into the hall, Astoria in her sight just before the turn in the hallway.

Without a thought, Teah loosed the arrow. It drove into the woman with a thud, striking her in the back, pushing out be-tween the Zele Magus’s breasts in front. Astoria fell dead, colliding against the wall of the corridor.

Teah ran back into her room, sheathing the rod once more and fastened it to her thigh under her dress. Collecting her bedroll with the two swords and her locket, she ran.

The blades called for her to strap them on, to turn and fight Caldora, but she knew better. She and Logan were to keep her identity as a protector a secret, a secret that had nearly been dis-covered. A secret she had killed to protect. She would have been sick if there was time. She pushed the thought from her mind and ran with all her might.
