A small box of bandages sat on the cart with Q-tips, and antibiotic ointment. Mercer came up behind me, wrapping one arm around my waist while grabbing the bandages with his other hand. He kissed my cheek, causing my stomach to flutter.
“I’ll do it,” he said. “I want to take a look and make sure it’s not too bad.”
“It’s fine,” I pulled away from him. “Just a few small burns.”
He turned me to face him and began unwrapping the gauze on my arm. “I have two free hands.”
I bit my lip as the last of it slipped away, revealing the bright red, oval burns around my tattoo and the nickel sized thumbprint on the tail of the fox. As Mercer turned my wrist to inspect the wounds, my tattoo shimmered in the light, giving a rainbow haze like light on oil. He sucked in his breath with a mall whistle and glanced at me raised eyebrows.
“How did you get these burns?” he asked.
I shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. “Really hot water.”
“Uh huh,” He unscrewed the tube of ointment and spread some on a Q-tip. “Interesting pattern.”
I really needed to work on my lying. “Yeah.”
The gelled liquid felt cool for all of second before my skin heated it. A strange tingling passed through me where Mercer’s fingers touched. I stiffened as it set my teeth on edge. He pulled my arm close to his face and studied my tattoo with a furrowed brow.
“Interesting,” he said.
His fingers brushed against the face of the fox and the buzz turned into a jolt of electricity, causing my whole arm to vibrate and burn. My tailbone slammed into the cart, knocking it over, as I flew backwards and was stopped by the wall.  My shoulders and head bounced against it and landed on the floor with a soft thud. I groaned, trying wave away the dancing lights around my face. My whole body was humming so hard my teeth were on edge. Shit. I got to my feet and braced myself against the wall with a pant. Mercer stood up from the opposite side of the couch with his jaw set. His gaze found mine.
My laugh held a hysterical edge to it. “It figures. I meet a seemingly decent guy, and he turns out to be a god.”
“A pandoran,” he gave a ghost of his old smile. “I knew there was something special about you.”
I took a few faltering steps forward and raised my hands in fists. “Let’s just get this over with.”
He raised his hands in the air. “I don’t want to fight you Cassi.”
A pressure built up in my chest and everything from yesterday crashed down around me. Tears pricked at my eyes as my throat closed up. I couldn’t do this. I stumbled back, pulled open the front door, and ran towards the stairwell at the end of the hall. Had I just slept with the god responsible for James’s death?

Noree Cosper’s Secret Aspirations of Godhood

I have a god complex. Seriously, the characters I write about tend to aspire to be gods or build up to having godlike power. I know what you’re thinking. This isn’t exactly what the term means, but it seems to fit and I do tend to be pretty arrogant. I mean, I’m always right and I’m more intelligent than most of the population. I’m also attracted to arrogant me, because who else would be worthy of me, but another god? Heh, just kidding. Maybe. Still, I love writing about gods and mythology…and I love my characters having power and dealing with world threatening odds.

The energy shift on the floor was fast, the hip-hop music turning decidedly rap. She looked over her shoulder and saw a guy doing a handstand, challenging gravity in some kind of breakdance move.
“What’s this?” she yelled at the girl next to her. “Break dancing?”
“Kind of,” she said. “It’s this parkour thing? Freerunning. You know, the flips and stuff?”
Ari had seen it before—on the Internet. Crazy guys leaping from rooftops and taking backflips off subway walls.
“There’s a group of guys that do it here in the city. Occasionally, they show up in clubs like this.” Both women watched as another guy joined in doing a series of choreographed back handsprings. “They’re hot right?”
Ari snorted. Hot was an understatement. The strength required to do the tricks was obvious, as were the muscles under their shirts. “Holy crap,” Ari said, seeing the tight stomach on one of the guys peeking out from under his shirt. He flipped from his back to an upright position and his dark eyes met hers.
The song ended and the guys were swallowed into the crowed. Ari tried to find them, any of them, but there were too many people clogging up the dance floor. She checked her watch and saw it was near one. She needed to go soon so she wouldn’t be a zombie at work the next day, but she’d just started to relax.
She re-entered the dance floor and got lost in the throng of dancers. A couple of guys tried to grab her arms but she shook them off, uninterested. She knew who she was looking for. Mating and dating and anything of the sort could only be called a game. Chasing was part of the thrill. Ari had more pride than to chase a guy down in a bar, but four years of partying during college taught her how to lure one out.
Ari spotted him in the middle of the floor, dancing with a group of girls in the hazy light. Fangirls from the looks of them. One had her finger in his belt loop, near the button. Another had a fistful of shirt at his side. Possessive much?
Spinning away from him, Ari found the closest guy and began to dance. Nothing dirty, she didn’t want to cross any lines, but her hips swayed to the beat and the guy she’d picked was more than willing to be her partner. He had a shaggy mop of hair, kind of like Oliver’s except it glowed red like a halo in the lights near the stage. Damp with sweat, it fell into his eyes. He brushed it aside and Ari saw the hooped ring through his eyebrow. She moved her head to the music, laughing a little at his skinniness, the way his pants slid off his hips. They were saved by a leather belt.
Ari felt the lightest touch on her back, near the tattoo that peeked out of the top of her shirt. Maybe not even a touch. Perhaps just energy. She didn’t look. She wouldn’t dare. Not yet.
What she did do was shift her body backwards, not enough to touch the guy behind her, but enough to enter his zone. Despite their lack of physical contact, the guy behind her must have put off quite the vibe, because the boy in the droopy pants figured it out quick enough, giving Ari a little wave before turning toward another girl.
The tempo notched up again and Ari moved closer to her new partner, yet never touching or speaking. Her chest shuddered with each beat, releasing the stress from her body. She wanted to exhaust herself, forget about armed robbers and child prostitution. She closed her eyes and danced.
The song shifted and Ari turned. She opened her eyes, taking in the man in front of her. Shaved head. Light brown skin. Tall and slim, but ripped. She’d seen his abs before. The way he looked at her in return set her stomach on fire, and she ached to feel his hands on her skin. Something hard to cut away at the numbness. She lifted an eyebrow and tilted her head just a bit. Then she left the dance floor.
It was impossible to tell which beat harder, her heart or the music. Ari made her way through the crowd. She’d never done anything like this without a wingman—someone to keep an eye out and make sure there wasn’t any trouble. She liked to have fun, but her job made her aware of the dangers lurking in seedy bars and dark dance clubs.
Yet, she couldn’t seem to make herself care. Not now.

Several years ago I had tickets to a major concert. I ended up not
being able to go. I decided to give the tickets to this very hot, very borderline-of age, life guard at my pool. My friend and I left them on his car windshield in the middle of the night with the note, "Thanks for the Awesome."  I am WAY too old for this.

After waving goodbye and closing the door, Boaz turned to me, his body inches from mine. “You didn’t have to use magic tonight.”
I swallowed. “I know.”
“Then why did you?”
“It was fun.”
“It was, wasn’t it?”  He grinned, something alight in his eyes.
I nodded.
His gaze dropped to my lips for the briefest of moments, but enough to make the magic swell within me again, taking my breath away.
“I have somewhere I need to be,” he said. “Do you mind if I call it a night too?”
“Of course not,” I stuttered, feeling suddenly stupid. Maybe the kiss we’d shared earlier had only been amazing to me. I faked a yawn. “I was going to go to bed anyways.”
“Very well then,” he said and disappeared behind the door I wasn’t allowed behind.
“No, it’s not very well,” I whispered as I turned to go up the stairs. My whole body was tingling and yet numb at the same time. I glanced down at my feet. They were still there and moving, yet I felt like I was floating.
I spun a few steps before I danced into my bedroom and closed the door behind me, trapping me in a dark room. I reached for the light, but then stopped. My arm lowered to my side. Breathing in deeply, I focused on the darkness, the way it crawled over my skin and the way it breathed on my skin, whispering seducing words I couldn’t understand but could feel.
I opened my eyes as realization dawned on me.
Darkness felt good.

When I was a child, my friend and I were convinced that our neighbors were abusing their children. And we were determined to help them. When I asked my mother about them, she said I was too young too worry about such things, but in my mind I wasn’t.
The next day, my friend and I waited until we were sure no one was home at our neighbors house. We then broke in (door was unlocked, but still) to their home to look for evidence we could take to the police. The house was a disaster like nothing I had ever seen before. It wasn’t until I was standing in all the chaos that I realized I didn’t know what I could give the police that would prove the children were being abused. It was in that same moment that I realized the dangerous predicament we had just put ourselves in. What if the family came home?
My friend and I bolted, never to speak of our breaking and entering ever again. As for our neighbor’s children, weeks after we had snuck into their house, they were taken into protective custody. I learned two things that day. 1. I will always do what I can to protect children. 2. I am a horrible detective.
