Alek faces me and I shiver; from the water cooling my neck and shoulders, and from his proximity. His expression holds a frightening intensity, darkened eyes filled with concern and something unknown. An unexpected desire for his touch shudders through, the arousal edging out the fear.
"I’m going to kiss you," he says.
"I don’t think so!" But the image flies into my mind, igniting heat into my weak body. A body telling me what a great idea it would be to feel those full lips I've stared at more than I should pressed against mine.
Alek rakes a hand through his hair. "But I don’t want to."
"Wow, thanks. I’ll give it a miss then." Heat of embarrassment replaces the desire, and I turn away.
"But I should. I’m not going to force myself on you, but I’m trying to help you."
"Help me what? Understand how unbelievably arrogant you are because you think I want to kiss you?" I snap, spinning back to him.
"No, to help you stay here." There's an earnestness at odds with the usual Alek.
"Honestly, when I wake up tomorrow, I’m gone."
"No!"
I jump in alarm at his vehemence, eyeing the front door. "Jeez, you’re weird."
Alek rubs his nose and fixes his eyes on my mouth. He inhales and tenses, as if preparing to do something stupid and dangerous, like jump off a cliff. This strikes me as odd. I mean, a lot about tonight is beyond odd, but the Alek I’ve got to know doesn’t seem the type who would deliberate these things.
"Okay, I’m going to do this. If you want me to stop, just push me away."
Before I can respond, Alek takes hold of my shoulders. His lips tentatively touch mine and static arcs across my face. The lightning-struck feeling spreads as he takes advantage of my parted-mouthed surprise and crushes his mouth to mine. I try to pull away, the intensity of the charge spreading into my body frightening me, but Alek has one hand in the small of my back and another at the nape of my neck, holding me steady. At every point our bodies are in contact, heat of a kind I've never experienced flows; with each passing second, the stronger the urge to have Alek hold and kiss me like this until I can't breathe overpowers. I close my eyes; in my mind’s eye, white light blinds my thoughts, tripping the switch on a desire so strong I fight against pulling my clothes off, and then starting on his.
I grab Alek’s head in return, digging my hands into his scalp, and delve my tongue into his mouth. I want this. Him. Touching, kissing, tasting, everything. All I can focus on is the powerful energy flowing from his lips to mine, drawing away the exhaustion and filling me with vigour. Alek loosens his grip on my head then disentangles my fingers from his hair.
I stagger backward as he moves away and rest against the wall. "What the hell was that?"

 Lisa Swallow's Author Secret —
When I was at university in England, I loved live music and would watch bands most weekends. A band who were very well-known in the UK music scene at the time was playing one night and I bumped into one of them pre-show. He was very drunk (which was obvious on stage later) and I wasn’t entirely sober. Nothing much happened but I made the decision not to meet him again after the show as he suggested, otherwise my secret might be bigger! He wasn’t even the band member I liked the most  - is that bad?

Cadan stared at Diana perched above him and all his good intentions to maintain his distance for her safety fled his mind. He knew, knew, that if his judgment was compromised again as it had been so many years ago, she would suffer an equally horrific fate.

But everything about her clouded his senses. The feel of her, the look of her, the smell of her, and the sound of her all reminded him that it had been a long time since he’d been with a woman. Even longer since he’d been with one who made him feel more than simple lust. Two thousand years, to be precise. And Diana was turning out to be more than he’d thought. Much more.

Now he was pinned beneath her, the heat of her making his cock twitch. He had to get up, push her off, but she immobilized him. Not with her strength—hers was nothing compared to his—but with her will. Just a minute longer. Then he would move.

But she leaned down then, pressing herself against his chest, and whispered close to his ear, “Are all the guardians built like you?”

The feel of her warm breath, the brush of her lips, made a shudder run down his spine. Unable to stop himself from experiencing this pleasure just once, he ground himself against her. He forced himself to still, but not before he heard the small noise of surprised approval at his ear.

Fuck, what was her game? But he nodded once in answer to her question, surprised to hear her laugh low in her throat.

“Oh, I don’t think so,” she purred as she rubbed herself against him. “I think that you—” She ran her hands down his sides and his muscles tensed at her touch. “—are unique.”

She began to press small, hot kisses along the side of his neck, lightning shooting through him to his cock every time he felt her mouth. He groaned when her tongue darted out, tasting him.

“Make me yours, Cadan.”

Aye. Mine. Always mine.

“Who are you?” His voice was raspy, nearly broken. He’d have been embarrassed if he’d had any blood left in his brain to keep it operational.

“I’m afraid I don’t know what you mean.” Her voice was husky, desire thick in her tone. She glanced down at his mouth.

“You’re different—” He nearly groaned when her small pink tongue darted out and wetted her top lip. “—than you were before.”

She smiled and raised a hand to run it through his hair. “You caught me by surprise, then, that’s all. This time—” She fisted her hand in his hair. “—I’m in control.”

The warrior in him, the leader, the commander, boiled at the idea, but the man in him, the one trapped beneath the temptress who licked and bit and stared at him with endless eyes, thought, Aye.

— Lindsey Hall’s Author Secret —

For a long time, writing books was my secret. I was an underwater archaeologist, which is a fairly conservative field, and I didn’t want my colleagues to read all of the sexy stuff I was writing—not to mention my family members! Well, the cat is out of the bag now. My pen name isn’t very different from my real name and my family isn’t very good at secrets. Every single member of my family—grandparents, uncles, in-laws—has read my books AND the many sex scenes. The first time my uncles had a chance to tell me they’d liked my book (and give me a little hell) was at my grandfather’s funeral. It was both funny and embarrassing—but it was a lighthearted moment in the midst of some sadness, so I’m glad for that. And we’re all adults, right? At least, that’s what I tell myself whenever I think about family reading my sex scenes (or skimming, as I think most of them do:-).

– Sample – Changeling – Sample –

The blood moon of October cast shimmering beams, tingeing the treetops with crimson.  By Halloween, it would reach fullness, and the balance of good and evil in the Fae kingdom would be in peril as the veil between human and spirit worlds would be at its thinnest.  An in-between, middling time.  A dangerous time.

But Kheelan was used to being in two worlds at once, yet belonging to neither.

What was wrong with him?  You’d think he’d never seen a beautiful girl.  Besides, even the prettiest human couldn’t compare to the enchantment of any run-of-the-mill fairy.  And he should know.  The daoine-sith Fae rewarded him with a fairy lover whenever he completed a dangerous mission, as if rewarding an obedient dog with a bone.

Kheelan smoldered at the humiliation.  His skin burned from it, his mouth scorched from the angry words he must never say aloud.  They had stolen him from his human family. He’d no doubt been sleeping unaware the night those cradle robbers came and forced him into a lifetime of servitude and danger.

He got nothing in return.  No love, no acceptance, and no hope of a future.   Indeed, they despised him.

Changeling.  How he hated the word, been taunted with it, as if it was some kind of deformity on his part.  A mere changeling, only tolerated for what he could do in their petty wars or their unending, menial labors.  He summoned his enormous will and pushed the bitter thoughts away.  Deep in his mind was a place no one could enter, a refuge he refused to let them destroy.  A soul some might call it.  His and his alone.

Musical notes vibrated from the girl’s apartment. It was dramatic, haunting even.  He appreciated that it was worlds different from the incessant Celtic flute, or worse, the brain-splintering bagpipe music his captors so adored.  Kheelan closed his eyes and let the melody wash over his senses.

When the music stopped, he glanced at the window where the light extinguished.  He yearned for the light, the music, and for the unknown human girl curled up in bed, unknowing and uncaring of the forces swirling around her.  But the human was a suspect, one of many to investigate.

Somebody was murdering the pixies.  His job was to find out who and why and bring them to the Fae’s royal Seelie Court.  Should he fail . . . well, even the good Fae had their ways of punishing. His purpose was to mingle with his fellow mortals, searching for information to assist the good Fae in their unceasing war with the Unseelie Fae.

Time to leave. He would come back tomorrow night.  Samhain, the witch’s Halloween, drew nearer, each year more sinister than the one before.  His instructions from the Seelie Court Fae, his owners, were to find the culprit before Samhain.  Or else.  Kheelan wrapped the deep maroon duster tightly around his lithe body and disappeared into the night to join the unsuspecting, blissfully ignorant, human mass.

My secret crush is actor/model Rick Mora. He's had success as a Native American model and secured small parts in film and television. Plus, he's also worked as a photographer, writer and philanthropist. I find talent, intelligence and, most important, kindness extremely attractive in a man. Really, a generous heart is sexy!

Native American culture draws me with its creativity and wisdom. I've even written two Harlequin Novels with Native American heroes and that used Choctaw legends as my plot inspiration.

So what's your secret? What fascinates you? I'd love to hear about it!

Isobel scrambled into the corner, her arm stinging from something she struck on the way. Turning to face the room, she was dismayed to see the lantern she'd knocked to the ground lying a few feet away.

“No!” she gasped as the light flickered and began to dim.

The glass hadn't broken, but the oil in the bottom had spilled all over the floor. She didn't want to be locked in here with Matteo in the dark. Throat tight, she scrambled forward before all of the lamp's fuel leaked out.

Her hand had just touched the overturned lamp when a larger darker one took hold of it and lifted it off the ground. Moving like lightning, Isobel crawled back and pressed herself against the wall. Matteo, or the thing that was living inside him, lifted the lamp and turned it down to a low flame.

The light dimmed to a faint glow. Unable to look away, she raised her eyes. His head wreathed in shadows, Matteo loomed over her.

A strange grating and rhythmic sound filled the air. It was her lungs fighting to draw air in short labored pants. But her effort failed as soon as he moved.

It was like a snake striking. One second she was curled in a ball against the wall, and the next she had been hauled off her feet and suspended inches off the ground.”

The shadows ceased to matter. His face was just inches away, allowing her to see him clearly. Except it wasn't his face anymore. It was a beautiful shell, one made terrible in its absence of a human soul.

However, it wasn't an empty shell. Something was there looking back at her through his eyes—a dark and demonic force. A tremor ran through her entire body as she took in the expression in those eyes. There was an intelligence there and...hunger.

Isobel recognized that look. Other men had watched her with something similar in their expression. But those were normal human appetites, much paler and weaker than this. She wasn't going to die right away.

“Please don't,” she whispered.

— Lucy Leroux’s Author Secret —

Hmm. I have a lot of them, most of them unintentionally kept. For a while there I couldn’t keep a secret, which infuriated my mother. You see in my family keeping secrets is the norm. We have a lot of secrets. There are things my family thinks are no one else’s business but our own. Which would be fine, but since I live on another continent, they sometimes forget what they have and have not told me.

Divorces, pregnancies, dramatic break-ups my extended family—I don’t always hear about them. Maybe a family member assumes one of the others told me, but most of the time they haven’t. My life is full of little surprises as a result. You get used to it.

My family sounds very dramatic now. I can’t disagree. We would make a great Mexican soap opera.

It took Facebook to teach me to keep my mouth shut about certain things. Once the number of extended family members hit a critical mass combined with the misinterpretation of something I said and that was it. My mother still scolds me about not posting this or that to Facebook.

So what haven’t I broadcasted yet that you might like to know? Well, my name is confusing. This is true for all its permutations, which are numerous for different reasons.

I don’t publish under my legal name. This is so the uber-religious members of my extended family aren’t immediately aware that I now write steamy romance erotica. Although I’m sure they’ll find out eventually. It will be one of their little surprises…
