Blog Tour: Review: The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken

To touch a Dark One is death.

To talk to an immortal is suicide.
Yet, I've been marked by both.
A Vampire.
And the King of the immortals.
My life is no longer my own.
And now I know the truth, my life was never mine to begin with.
It was theirs.
It's always been theirs.

REVIEW
This was a fantastic PNR read that was filled with mystery, passion and exciting plot twists. From the very first page I knew I was in for an enthralling read. It sank its teeth into me and held on until the very last page.

I was extremely intrigued by Genesis and what duties were expected of her when it came to the immortals. Upon meeting them, I wasn't sure what to make of them, would this be another book that romanticizes these different mythical beings, or would they be more like something out of a nightmare. Even though this was a romance, Genesis' take on them made them out to be monsters, so I was expecting them to be a bit more insidious. Mason seemed to be the one to watch, but in all truthfulness he ended up being a big puppy dog...wolf. Alex and Stephanie were interesting characters and I can't wait to see more of them as this saga progresses. And then, of course, there were Ethan and Cassius. At first I thought this was going to me another love triangle, but as the story unfolded, so the truth behind their dislike for each other became clearer, and their interest in Genesis made more sense.

Ethan and Genesis' relationship started off slowly but quickly ignited into a sensual love that was wild and passionate. I was elated that Ethan was finally able to find happiness again, and it helped him get over the past and look to a brighter future...that's if the prophecy could be fulfilled. Cassius was made out to be the bad guy, and even though the hand he played in the past was terrible, I didn't see him as evil. He was misunderstood and had a good heart, the biggest surprise in this story proved that and the final chapter gives me much hope that perhapss he too can find his happiness, and even a little peace.

Fans of PNR romances will love everything about this book. It was thrilling and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for each of these caracters. I do have to add, though, that the character I most want to see find love and purpose is Mason. That werewolf found a place in my heart and I hope he will find someone to mends his soon.
