While
Paul concentrated on the road, Laura took the chance to gaze at his profile.
His thick brown hair was short, but not too short. Long enough for her to run
her fingers through. He had noble-looking arched eyebrows that weren’t too thick. His square jaw cut a sharp line
down from his ear to his strong chin that sported a day’s worth of stubble. Every feature of Paul’s added to his overall look of male
perfection. He pulled into the left turn lane in front of the Mondrian Resort
and Laura laughed at the irony. Paul had no idea this place had played such a
prominent role in her short-lived reality TV production. All she could hope was
that Madison wasn’t
working tonight, and that the rest of the staff wouldn’t recognize her from the shoot. She wanted to
be incognito. She didn’t
want to be Hollywood. She just wanted to be Laura, a girl on a date with a cute
boy named Paul. She wanted to feel as if she and Paul were the only people in
the world.
As Paul pulled into the valet lane in
front of the resort, a uniformed man stepped to the car and pulled open her
door. “Welcome to the Mondrian.”
Another valet had rounded the front of the
car and opened Paul’s door. “Welcome back, Mr. Dorn. Dining with us
tonight?” The valet handed Paul a valet ticket.
“Yes,
we are. Thank you, Tony.” Paul slid the valet some money before joining Laura
on the sidewalk, sliding an arm around her waist and walking with her to the
front door of the resort.
“How do the parking attendants know your
name? Who are you, Paul Dorn? I know you can’t just work in a surf shop,” Laura said,
nudging his side with her shoulder.
