A tale of courage, passion, and raw emotion, this book hooked me from the very first page, sinking it's teeth in and never letting go.
Intense and suspenseful, I needed to know everything there was to know about Candy - from her time at Harmony Hills, to why she ran away, and then the erotic intrigue that was her relationship with Ivan.There was so much depth to Candy's character. Caught between her love for the man who saved her, to her need to break free, while trying to let go of everything that had been instilled in her as a child, her life was a emotional rollercoaster.
There was plenty of chemistry between Candy and Ivan. They were the kind of couple that you just wished and prayed would eventually let go of everything that plagued them, to find the happiness they so deserved. It was touch and go for a while, and with Candy looking for a way out, her need to be her own person, I wasn't sure if it would ever happen. She was determined and I was happy for her, but my heart also ached a little because I needed to see them together.
Ivan showed his true heart and soul at the end. Behind the stubborn, controlling, somewhat egotistical, malevolent man, was a sweet, caring person who'd lived his own horror story, and I think he saw a lot of himself in Candy. That is why, in the beginning, he wanted to protect her so much, he'd rather see her trapped by his power than give her any over his own heart.
This book was heartrending as much as it was heartwarming. I loved it but I wish I had been able to connect with the characters a bit more. Other than that, it was superb.
