Running in the Dark
Inger Iversen

(Running in the Dark #1)
Publication date: February 8th 2016
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

He is known only as Trace—because he leaves no trace of his victims behind.

A deadly Russian slayer, Trace’s life has always revolved around death. Death, and preventing humankind from learning about the legendary creatures of the night. But now his position as a Watcher has become a prison, and dealing death for the Vampire Nation isn’t as prestigious as he once believed it to be.

College dropout Bessina Darrow has witnessed things she isn’t permitted to see, a simple case of wrong place at the wrong time putting her life in danger. When Bessina becomes his new mark, Trace is prepared to eliminate her—until he discovers a way out for them both.
Protecting Bessina means defying the leaders of the Nation, an act that has them both running for their lives. The more Trace fights to disappear from danger, the more he unravels the secrets crafting his world—secrets he must unveil in order to finally save a life, instead of destroy it. Okay , I can do that.

REVIEW

This was a great start to a series that is sure to excite readers who love lore involving vampires, shape shifters, and the like.

Bessina was an intriguing character and I have a feeling she is much more than what meets the eye – even with the revelations about her family that come out during this first book. This alone has me enthralled and wanting more.

There was an intense chemistry between Bessina and Trace, and as this story developed, so that chemistry sparked and crackled. Bessina took things in her stride but, at times, I felt she accepted things a bit too easily. The catch 22 situation she found herself in would have me reeling, and although she did question things and wanted to know more, she didn’t put up much of a fight. Perhaps her attraction to Trace overshadowed any doubt and confusion she was experiencing, making it easier for her to be so agreeable.

Aside from Bessina and Trace’s relationship, this book held a suspenseful, twisted web of lies and deceit, with underground organizations, and rebellious sects, ready to rip the world apart and start a war. This was another aspect of the story that really sucked me in and had me hooked. I loved the romance, but I’m eager to see more from these divisions.

This was a well-paced story that flowed right off the pages. It has a lot of promise and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
