Blog Tour: Review, Excerpt + #Giveaway: Iron Pendulum by Megan Curd #ThePeriodicSeries

A month ago, Avery thought the world ended outside Dome Four. Thought she was one of the few of her kind. Thought the war that brought the human race to the brink of extinction was over.

But a month can change everything.

After fighting to escape a tyranny she didn't even know existed, Avery has had to come to grips with all the secrets she's uncovered. But more secrets continue to come to light, revealing how little of her world she truly knew. When evidence starts to show that Dome Four might be under siege, Avery knows what she must do.

Returning to the dome she longed to escape is a challenge for Avery, but now she knows there’s corruption lurking in the shadows. A massive steam shortage leaves half the dome without power, and people are falling ill. Dying.

And they’re blaming Avery.

A month can change everything. One more month could kill everyone. The clock is ticking.

Her huff echoed in our headsets, and I was glad she couldn’t see my smile.
“Avery, don’t act like I don’t know you’re smiling behind that mask.”
I put my hands up in submission. Alice knew everything about me.
Jaxon took the map. “Let’s go left.” He turned and walked away like he expected us to follow. Which we did.
I was thankful for the mask, because it dulled the stench of refuse floating along the shallow water in the tunnel. Rats scurried along the waterline, our lights sending them into a frenzy. Each step caused the water to slosh and echo through the tunnel, giving our position away.
“We should try to stay out of the water,” I said into the mic, hoping someone would agree with me before Jaxon could argue.
No dice.
Jaxon touched his earpiece and spoke. “Why? Are you afraid of your toes pruning in the water?”
“It’s not that.”
“Contrary to legend, there are no alligators in the sewer.”
“That you know of,” Alice quipped.
Deep down, Alice liked Jaxon. She just enjoyed making him squirm. And the truth was, I enjoyed watching it happen.
“That I know of.” Jaxon admitted. “But I will take one for the team and wrestle the beast into submission if it floats down our tunnel. Then I expect minstrels to sing of my heroics in future years. You can be the minstrel, Alice. I bet you’d look great with a lyre and kilt-y getup.”
Alice shook her head. “If anyone would look good in a skirt, it’s you, chicken legs.”
“Oh, please, you know you wish you could look as good as me in a skirt. Have you seen your calves?”
Everyone laughed and Alice huffed. Jaxon took the lead and sloshed through the water, making more of a ruckus than necessary.
But then he went still. As still as a dog that had caught a scent on a hunt.
Alice’s whisper came through the earpiece. “Jax, what did you hear?”
I watched as the muscles in Jaxon’s back tensed and his shoulders squared. I heard the minor intake of breath and wondered if everyone else knew what it meant.

He was afraid.

REVIEW

Holy heck! This book was an explosive thrill ride from page one until the very end. Fast-paced, action-packed and filled with intrigue, betrayal, and heartache.

Unfortunately, I haven't read book 1, but I didn't feel completely lost when reading this book. There were times when I wondered what had happened in the first book, and I think I'm going to have to give it a read, even if it's just to be taken on another exciting journey with these characters.

Curd has created an interesting post apocalyptic world with fascinating characters. Even the evil guys were interesting to get to know. A complex web, woven with lies and corruption, there was never a dull moment, only many edge-of-my-seat, gasping-for-breath moments. Just as I thought I'd wrapped my head around what was going on in Dome Four, another curveball was thrown my way and the deeper into the story I got the darker it became.

This book had it all, and will appeal to a wide audience. Whether you're looking for kickass characters, a bit of romance, or just enjoy a great Steampunk Dystopian read, this is the one for you.

Second Chances Series Spotlight Tour: Review + Excerpt: Intercepting Love by L.P. Dover

Both have what she wants … but only one has what she needs.

Working with professional athletes and helping them recover from their injuries has always been Kate Townsend’s dream, but after an accident left her scarred and heartbroken years ago she refuses to let what happened in her past happen again. Staying focused is the key, as well as not letting her feelings interfere with her job … no matter the circumstances. All of that is easier said than done when not only one, but two men crave her healing touch, igniting every single desire she’s denied herself for so long.

Cooper Davis, NFL’s star quarterback and most eligible bachelor, packs up and leaves his home to move across the states to the East Coast after an injury results in the embarrassing trade to another team. Bitter from the pain, he deals with his problems through drugs and alcohol—almost ruining his football career—until he meets the one woman who makes him want to feel; the same woman who refuses to give up on him no matter how many times he screws up. He has to have her, and he’s not going to stop until he makes her his. Especially, now that someone else threatens to take her away.

Motocross champion and local bad boy Luke Collins never takes no for an answer. For the past four months he’s used his charms to get what he wants, and now he’s so close to getting the girl of his dreams … if she’ll give in just once. One time is all he needs, and he’s never been known to fail, but he’s also never had to fight for a woman’s affections. Only one man will win their way into Kate’s heart, but which one will intercept the other and take what they want? Which one will she choose?

Taking my elbow, Cooper guided me to his car and opened the door.  “I’m not worried about your brother, Kate. I’m not going to do anything to you unless you ask me to.”

“Like what?” I asked coyly.

Shielded from view by the car door, Cooper leaned in and brought his lips closer to mine, opening them slightly. I couldn’t move, but then again … I didn’t want to.

Instead of kissing me, he murmured across my lips, “I’m sure you’ll figure that out when the time comes. If you want me to kiss you, I’m not going to do it until you place your soft lips on mine first. If you want me to touch you, I’m not going to unless you beg me for it. It’s all on you now, love.”

REVIEW

I really enjoyed this story. It incorporated all the things I liked about the other books in the series, whilst being completely different in many ways.

Firstly, I liked that Kate and Cooper didn't have any past connections, and they never met through any of the other characters in the series. Not that any of these things were bad, but as much as I like intertwined series', at times it can become a bit much. Of course, there were characters from the other books in this series in this story but they weren't as involved as before, and I was intrigued to see what Dover had in store for Cooper because I thought he got a really raw deal in Meant For Me.

The other great thing about Kate and Cooper having no ties and being complete strangers was that there was plenty of sexual tension and a great build up to that moment when they finally both gave in and allowed their feelings, or more like their hormones, to take over. There was instant chemistry between them and as I've come to expect from Dover's characters, together, they heated up my Kindle more often than not.

Both Kate and Cooper suffered through their fair share of heartache and tragedy which seemed to follow them no matter where they went. Kate was haunted by her past and even if she could let go of it Scott's family were there to remind her every year. I was surprised by the lengths Marianne went through to destroy Kate. That would was angry and vindictive. As for Cooper, I hated that his family treated him so badly and it was a true shock when he went to confront his mother about everything that had been happening to turn not only his but Kate's life upside down.

This was a wonderful story that held my attention the entire time with great characters. I loved the addition of the notes and letters. although they added to the heartache, they gave this book a fun twist with they way in which they appeared. Great idea!

SECOND CHANCES SERIES

Korinne Anders had it all. She had the perfect job, the perfect house, and the perfect husband. When tragedy strikes, her world takes a devastating turn. Six months after losing her husband to a car accident, Korinne vows it to herself never to love again. If she doesn’t allow another man in her heart, then there’s no reason for her to feel the pain of loss. This plan seems to work, but is put to the test when Korinne’s best friend can’t stand to see her suffering any longer.

Korinne’s long-time friend, Jenna Perry, has an idea and it involves helping her friend find the spark of life in her soul no matter what it takes. Korinne didn’t know that Jenna’s plan meant bringing back a past love, a second chance with the man that Korinne had to leave in college, but always kept a place for in her heart.

When Galen Matthews learns of Korinne’s loss and that she’s finally moved back home, he wants nothing more than to be there for her. The love he felt for Korinne years ago has never left him, and now he’s given a second chance to not only mend her heart of her loss, but to also continue the love they shared in the past. Will his love and determination make her strong enough to give fate a second chance, or will her fear of losing another love make her run away?

What will Korinne do when she’s faced with a love so powerful that no matter what she does there’s nowhere to run from it?

I trust you …

These are the three words that Melissa Ashford wishes she could say to someone; to the one person she can fully give herself to and not worry about being betrayed. Being twenty-eight years old and divorced from a cheating ex-husband, Melissa enjoys her freedom … until one night when she finds herself indulging in a one night stand that changes everything.

There’s something about the alluring Brett Walker that has Melissa feeling things she’s never had with any other man. These feelings not only scare her, but push her past her limits as well. Just when she begins to open her soul to this new love, their bond is put to the test by jealousies from the past trying to break them apart.

It’s not only Melissa’s trust that’s put on the line, but Brett’s as well. Will their love be strong enough to get them through the lies? Will Melissa finally be able to say those three words she’s been dying to say? I trust you …

After a night of raw passion with the man Claire O’Briene had been secretly admiring for years, she thought their time together had come once and for all. Fate had finally brought them back to each other, but unfortunately nothing had changed. He was still the same man who ran away from relationships. Against his better judgment, Mason Bradley gave in to the temptation and allowed himself one night with the one woman he’d been too afraid to want … too afraid to need.

Six months after leaving Claire and regretting every minute of it, Mason gets called in for an undercover mission that’s not only dangerous, but brings back a past he spent years trying to forget. A past of fighting … of getting in the ring and using his fists to get what he wanted: money, women, and drugs. Now there are fighters turning up dead, and it’s Mason’s job to find out the truth.

Knowing he might not come out of the mission alive, Mason seeks out Claire to tell her how he truly feels, only to find another man competing for her love as well. Fighting is what he’s good at, and for once he will be fighting not only for justice …

Fighting for someone’s heart is more challenging than fighting for a title.

For a time, many years ago, love had grown, love was made, and in the end … love was lost. The decision to leave had been the worst mistake Shelby Dawson could have ever made. However, at the time—ten years ago—she felt her secret needed to stay hidden, even if it broke her heart and the heart of the man she loved. Back then, he was all hers and she was all his, but now things have changed and he isn’t the same guy she knew.

He happens to be the well-known MMA Heavyweight champion and famous bad boy, Matt ‘The Destroyer’ Reynolds, who once before struggled to help his family pay the bills. Now, he has money flowing with each undefeated win and an insurmountable number of women filling his bed. Everything is perfect for the illustrious fighter, until one day it all changes. In walks the girl from his past, the same girl who promised to stick by him but left and never looked back.

Their second chance to make things right will not come easy, for when one mistake is made an unwelcome consequence soon follows. Someone out there wants to rip them apart and they won’t stop until Matt and Shelby pay the ultimate price … their love.
