George had been on the road for over three weeks now and he was looking forward to heading home for a few days. He needed a break. He was sitting in another hotel room, writing a story about Senator Ashby’s stance on gun control. Needing a break, he pulled out his phone and sent a text to Stella.

 

My duck misses you

 

He threw his phone on the bed and pulled a Coke out of his cooler. His phone beeped.

 

Hahahahahahahaha your duck?

 

George looked at his phone and sure enough, the text he sent to start a sexual back and forth said duck instead of dick. He laughed out loud.

 

Yep. I want to put my duck everywhere

 

Stella texted back immediately.

 

Ducks need to stay in the water

 

George chuckled.

 

My duck needs some alone time so it can quack

 

His phone buzzed again.

 

You’re so weird. no duck is coming near me…dick that’s cool

 

He typed his next text and hit send.

 

So my duck quacking isn’t doing it for you

 

Her response was immediate.

 

No.

 

He laughed. George tapped on the Voxer app. "I was trying for sexting, but it’d be my luck to have a typo like that. My dick does miss you. I’d like to slip into something more comfortable."

 

Her laughter sounded in his hotel room. "You’re a fucking idiot."

 

Just the sound of her voice changed his entire mood. He felt lighter with her laughter ringing in his ears.

R.L. Griffin has done it again! What an exciting conclusion to Stella’s nightmare that began in By A Thread.

 

I found myself falling in love with the amazing characters of this book all over again, as I was once again sucked into their lives. Stella is still the hard ass, independent person she's strived to be throughout this series, but her walls have come down a bit, and George finally seems to be making progress with her. Things haven’t been easy for them from the start and I love how REAL their relationship is. They mess up, say the wrong things, can both be stubborn as hell, but they love each other regardless. I just wish Stella would’ve relied on George a little more. He was a real saint to put up with her at times.

 

This book was a direct continuation of Tension. My eyes were glued to my Kindle because I was so intrigued by what would happen with Jamie, and I had to know how the events that led up to this point would affect everyone, would something happen that would see the end of Stella and George, or would they find their happy ever after once and for all? Curveballs were tossed all over the place and I had whiplash by the end of this book with the many twists and turns. I was shocked by the turn of events after the final battle with Jamie. The revelation of what really transpired was brilliant. I honestly did not see that one coming. And then Patrick wore his heart on his sleeve and my heart broke. It broke for him because I cared so deeply for the man who Stella always relied on, and who did just about everything for her, even when she hated him; it broke for George, the man who loved her with all his heart but whom she continued to hurt with her fears; and it broke for Stella, because she was so completely lost, even at a time when things finally came to an end.

 

This book was filled with tension, suspense and tons of action. It dug deep into the amazing, but often painful dynamic of true love and friendship. It was a stunning read!

She knows she should be grateful that she lived when others didn't, but after waking in the hospital as a celebrity, complete with a new moniker, she's bitter and distrustful, questioning everything in her life. She's unsure of her friends, her new boyfriend, and her job. In addition, a face from the past reappears and threatens to take the one good thing in her life.

Stella attempts to deal with the new scrutiny of her life with her usual sense of humor, but she's filled with a new emotion that she tries desperately to hide: HATE. Ohmigosh! I can't believe this amazing trilogy has to come to an end! :(

 

I'm not sure if I should be excited about the upcoming release of Seamless or saddened that this is the final book in the By A Thread trilogy! It is truly a bittersweet moment for me!

For now I won't dwell on those feelings, though, because today I'm super excited to have the gorgeous cover of Seamless to show you all!!

I recently had the pleasure of reading, By A Thread, the first book in R.L. Griffin's

REVIEW

I read, Tension, book 2 in this series before reading By A Thread, and I really enjoyed it. So I was excited to receive a copy of By A Thread to see exactly where Stella's downward spiral all began.

Although I pretty much knew what was going to happen in this story it didn't stop me from immersing myself in the lives of Stella, George, Patrick and the rest of the gang. I felt like one of them.

As I said in my review of Tension, George has to be the most patient man in the world, and that really came through in this book. He tried his best to break down the fortress Stella had built around herself, and even though he managed to chip away at her stubbornness to love him, it just felt like with every step he took toward her heart, she'd take two steps away from him. She kind of deserved the heart ache that resulted from her stubborn behavior.

I really enjoyed reading about Stella and Patrick's relationship. There was a lot of tension and anger directed at Patrick in the second book, and even though I knew why, it was great seeing it first hand. Patrick was such a great friend to Stella. Yes, he betrayed her, but I really think his heart was in the right place, for the most part anyway. He did everything in his power to help her take back control on her life, and he was there for her no matter what. Whether he was doing it out of guilt, or whatever, I couldn't dislike him. But I do understand why Stella felt the way she did when all the secrets and lies were revealed.

This story was well paced, and it was great getting to look back into the lives of the characters I loved so much in Tension. It gave me better insight and understanding into how, they had become the people they were. Griffin is a talented writer, who leads her characters through many twists and turns, and I really am excited for this series to continue.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT

 

George’s “shift” at the hospital was Monday through Wednesday since Stella awoke; on those days, he was often there alone, giving her mother a break.  Stella’s dad was working back in Atlanta during the week but staying at the hospital from Friday to Sunday.  Stella was so restless and irritated; she just wanted to get out of the room and Montana.  He warned her that things were going to be different.  He planned to keep better tabs on her, and she’d have to be really careful about where she went.  She’d brushed him off, not believing how different her life would be when she left the confines of the hospital.

Every time he saw her, he tried to bring her something to make her happy.  George wanted to see Stella smile again, and not the fake one she used for everyone else. When he brought her a burger and fries from a Five Guys restaurant down the road, he thought she was going to explode with joy.   

“Oh my shit, George, thank you.” She took an enormous bite of her burger and sighed blissfully. “I’ve wanted a burger and fries since I woke up.” 

            “So Millie told me that you now have a Twitter account,” he said casually, watching her eat the rest of burger.  Watching her tear into her burger made him remember all the noises she used to make when she ate before the attack, relishing every bite.  It also made him remember the other noises she made while doing other things.  Am I really thinking about sex while watching her eat a burger?  Yes, I am.  

            “Oh, yeah.” She leaned over and reached toward the side table for her phone. “Can you download Twitter on here and tell me how to use it?”

            “Sure.”  George fiddled with her phone while Stella finished her fries. Not only did he download and setup Twitter, he changed his ringtone to “I and Love and You.”   “You know Millie is using this for PR purposes, right? So you should probably not cuss on it, okay?” He laughed, knowing he sounded like her mother.

            Stella forced a fake laugh. “Whatever, dude.  She said I should tweet about my progress and that’s what I’ll do.”

            “Not that I doubt that you would follow directions, but that doesn’t mean you should tweet about how you hate the doctors poking you and how terrible the food is.”

            She sighed.  “I know what it means, George.  I’m not an idiot.”

            He ran his hand over her hair, smoothing it back.  “I know you’re not an idiot, but you are on narcotics.  I highly doubt you should have access to Twitter while you’re on narcotics. I’ve heard about your drunk posts on Facebook, after all. Although…it would be highly entertaining.”

            “Okay, you may be right.  Maybe we should designate less-drugged times to tweet; though that might mean I’m in pain, and we can’t have pain-influenced tweets,” she teased. “Now that I think about it, maybe you should put my phone on the other side of the room or in your pocket.”  She smiled at his ass as he walked her phone over to the chest of drawers which the TV sat on. 

He turned to face her and dropped the phone in the front of his jeans.  “Let me know if you need to tweet.” He winked.

“Oh, I think I really need to tweet right now.”  She swung her legs out and stood up slowly. 

            “Something really important, like your doctor has okayed sex.”  George smirked and wiggled his crotch at her.

            Stella laughed and then groaned as the pain spread through her chest, but she walked over to where George was standing.  She eased her hand down his pants.  “I think I found something way more interesting than my phone in here.”
