However, life on the road presented its own challenges. Walker acted like an overgrown toddler that missed his nap. The band supported her takeover but the massive crew protested answering to a woman. On top of tip toeing around egos, discretion needed to be maintained while feeding Walker’s infamous sexual appetite.

She never expected Walker to focus his wandering eyes on her. When her past returned fighting Walker didn't seem as vital as keeping him alive. Walking away should be easy, but first they must all make it through unharmed.

Are you a Plotter or a Pantser?

Depending on the story and situation I’m a bit of both. There are times that a picture, phrase or writing prompt will spark an idea and I’ll sit down and write until all the words are done. Usually that’s about ten to twenty thousand words later and I have to figure out what’s going on next. Sometimes I’ll plot the rest of it, and sometimes the characters won’t give me what I need until the scene is up for dictation.

There are also times when I sit down with a single lonely character and figure out who they are, why they are who they are, who their nemesis, why their nemesis is their nemesis. What the conflict is; how do we fix the conflict… sometimes I even have to do body counts to determine if my characters have gone a little overboard with the killing. All this is done on index cards and then I write out (on one index card) ten scenes that have to happen to get from the starting line to the end.

Then there are times where it’s a combination of both and the scene I dumped twenty thousand words for is actually the end (Songbird did that to me). Those characters made it really fun to try and figure out how do I get there when I don’t even know where we started at.

My writing process is constantly evolving as I learn new things and as I grow more and more comfortable with my craft. I always have index cards handy just in case, and I have a writing app on my phone in case I need to word dump. The characters and the story to be told define how the writing is done. I’m only along for the ride.

Or will freedom remain unattainable?

  

REVIEW

 

This was a thrilling story of love, friendship, courage, trust and sacrifice. A well-paced book that had me hooked from the get go, I enjoyed getting to know these complex characters, walking alongside them as they navigated the world of organized crime –that was dark and terrifying at times.

My heart broke for Micah as he was tortured by Jingjing but I was glad he was able to find some peace in the time he spent with Levi, even if it wasn’t under the best pretenses. He seemed like such a vibrant guy, but under Jingjing’s thumb he lost his heart and soul, whereas Levi was his saving grace.

Levi/Cadence was an amazing character. I was not expecting her to be such a badass, and she had this cool confidence that wowed me every single time she interacted with Jingjing. But even with all her badassness, Levi had such a pure, good heart, and for her to do what she did for Micah throughout this book but especially toward the end was so selfless and beautiful. And of course, what he did in return was just as amazing. These two shared such a special bond built on turmoil and they truly deserved to achieve the unattainable.

This was a great read with plenty of heart.
