REVIEW

This book was even more exciting and explosive than the first. I couldn’t put it down and read it in only a few hours.

I was happy to see Jess more accepting of her new life, making her less whiny than in WitchBlood. As her transformation progressed with the help of her initiation, so Jess became more confident and independent. She no longer had to contend with bond that tied her to Daniel, and it was great that she was able to explore her feelings for him without it.

I really love the twist Mills has put on the vampire myth. I love how different Jess is, and the amazing abilities her witch blood has afforded her.

Each of the characters within this story has made their way into my heart, although I’m still on the fence about Luke. He has a long way to go before he’ll be deemed deserving of a place. Daniel, on the other hand, I adore. My heart shattered at the end of this book and I can’t wait to jump straight into book 3, if for nothing else but my sanity, because my broken heart could use some mending.

If you love vampires, but want something different, don’t hesitate to grab this series.

The Next Big Thing Blog Tour

I was so honored when the fabulous Emma Mills, author of the WitchBlood series, tagged me in The Next Big Thing Blog Tour.

'What is this tour all about?' I hear you ask.

Well it is an ever-increasing, worldwide tour of author interviews. So a HUGE thank you to Emma for thinking of me.

TNBT: What is the title of your book?

Therian. It is the first book in The Bloody Crescent trilogy.

TNBT: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

All Amberlyn Darksky wanted was to be normal, but what if normal was everything supernatural and legendary?

TNBT: Where did the idea come from for the book?

I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and werewolves. I loved the idea of taking these mythical creatures and adding my own spin to the legends. I was also intrigued by the idea of combining the two, forming a new hybrid creature. That’s when Amber was born, and the rest of the story took shape from there. It changed drastically from my first idea to the final product and I had immense fun crafting and re-crafting along the way. It’s amazing how once you breathe life into your characters, they take over and write the story for you.

TNBT: What genre does your book fall under?

Young Adult Paranormal Romance, although readers of all ages will enjoy it :)

TNBT: What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Wow! This is a difficult question. I’ve never really thought of it, but I’d probably go for lessor known actors. I can say that when I was writing the story I had a huge crush on Chris Riggi and he was my inspiration for Tayelon Cree. I think Odette Yustman is beautiful and she’d be my ideal Amber Darksky.

TNBT: How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

The first draft took roughly 6 months to complete. A few months more and it was ready for submission.

TNBT: Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I was going through a really tough time in my personal life. I’d just had my heart broken and I guess I needed a way to vent my hurt and anger. It was actually very therapeutic.

TNBT: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

My book combines romance, the supernatural and one girls battle to find herself, only to discover her true destiny. I think it has all the elements that work so well with this genre. There's no love triangle either! In fact, I believe the romantic element of my story is more a love square LOL.

REVIEW

This is a beautifully crafted, poignant story. The characters found within the pages of this book are real, not without fault and fighting to live the best life they can, the only way they know how.

It was impossible not to fall in love with these small town folk, especially Sean. There were so many times I wanted to give him a great, big hug and tell him that everything would be okay.

Sean lives with his father and sister, but neither are openly affectionate with the young boy. At times it seemed as if he was just in their way, as they brushed him off with "we'll sees" and other words that held no weight. It was interesting to see the world through Sean's eyes. He may have been young but he certainly had more courage and intelligence than anyone gave him credit for.

This made for a fun, but emotional read. Sean, in all his innocence, delivered such profound insight into his family's unusual bond. They're more than disfunctional, but the ties that bind are just as strong as any other family.

As Sean became a man, I was hoping that he'd learned a few lessons in life and that he wouldn't go down the same path as those around him. He did well for the most part, but fell off the tracks every now and then. I was just happy to see him grow up while still holding onto some of his adolescent innocence.

There are a few light moments throughout the story (I particularly loved when Sean felt guilty for looking at the cute blonde in Vogue) but the are also many heart-wrenching moments that sent my emotions into overdrive. This story will grab hold of you and won't let go to the very end.

If you are looking for a fantastic YA Fantasy series filled with magic and mystery, look no further.

The third book of the Angelaeon Circle is an action-packed, non-stop adventure that sees the amazing characters of this series face their biggest triumphs, but also suffer their greatest losses.

As Melaia and Trevin continue on the quest to reunite the harps and restore the stairway to heaven, they are challenged in every way possible. It was exciting to walk alongside them as they continued on their journey. I liked the fact that things weren't made too easy for the MCs, and even when it seemed like they were never going to fulfill their destinies, I was silently cheering them on.

Henley paints a vivid picture and I was fully immersed in her sensational storytelling, as the scenes played out in my head like a movie.

I really loved the angel mythology adopted in this book. It was quiet different from anything I've read before. With the Archae each representing the elements and the division between Angeleaon and malevolents. Another thing I love about all fantasy novels are the imaginative creatures brought to life, and the Windwings definitely added a magical quality to this story.

I enjoyed every minute reading this book, and really wished it didn't have to end.

It gets a well deserved...

Award-winning author Karyn Henley has written more than 100 titles, including a mix of children’s books and articles; parent-teacher books, articles, and curricula; and preschool musicals and CD’s/DVD’s of original music for children. Karyn revitalized the category of children's Bibles when she wrote the original The Beginner's Bible, which sold over five million copies and was translated into seventeen languages.

Venturing into the young adult market, Karyn’s first book of The Angelaeon Circle,Breath of Angel, hit bookshelves in June 2011 from WaterBook Press (Random House), followed by Eye of the Sword March 2012. She releases the final planned installment of the fantasy trilogy, Throat of the Night, just one year later.

An accomplished songwriter, Karyn has been a Dove Award nominee and received a regional Emmy Award as Music Composer for a Christmas television special. She has traveled worldwide speaking to parents and teachers about child development and communication with children and teens, as well as entertaining children and their families in storytelling/active movement sessions and concerts.

A graduate of Abilene Christian University(BSEd), Karyn received a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Artsin 2004.
