A story filled with passion and danger, this was an
explosive read that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
The chemistry between Ava and Dmitri was smoking hot and
sparked with desire each and every moment they were together; even when they
(or more accurately, he) were pretending there were no feelings involved. I
loved getting glimpses into their past, being able to relive the special
moments that brought them together and to watch their relationship develop from
friendship into something more sensual and emotional. As much as Dmitri tried
to deny that there was something
between them, his actions, no matter how tiny, portrayed a completely different
story.
Ava is one feisty character that one just cannot help
loving. Her, somewhat, dramatic responses to certain situations was quite
comical and added a lightness to a book filled with darkness. Having said that,
this book stayed true to the very underworld it encapsulated, raw and gritty,
some of the events that unfolded were quite scary and shocking, only adding to
the authenticity.
With many twists and surprises, there was never a dull
moment and I was enthralled the entire time. Phoenix is a masterful writer who
captures the essence of her characters in much the same way she captures the
attention and hearts of her readers, with perfection.
