REVIEW

This series was exciting in so many ways. I'm not really drawn to zombie fiction, but Andrews delivered a story that was more than just blood, guts and gore. It had depth and heart, and was a great apocalyptic love story with plenty of action, making it one of those series that will satisfy every type of reader.

 

I had the pleasure of reading each book in this series as they were released, so for a recap of my reviews you can check them out here - The World Without a Future, The Horde Without End, The Future Without Hope & The Ruin of the World.

 

I could not wait to give this box set a read, because I was intrigued by the bonus material pertaining to this series, and to get a sneak peek into Blood Scion.

 

I loved that Andrews tied up a few loose ends as I did find the end of the series left me feeling like there should have been more, and she gave me just that with Reclaiming the West. I also loved that she gave me more insight into certain subplots that were mentioned in the series, and of course who wouldn't love reliving Ren and Finn's first kiss...

 

So thank you, Naz, you have given me everything I wanted and needed from this amazing series. Loved it!!

I think it’s no secret that one of my favorite things is zombies. I love them, and going back to my little zombie infested apocalypse was so much fun. I knew almost from the first book that at the end I wanted to release a box set. And I wanted to tell stories that I didn’t get to in the novels.

Finn said—repeatedly—that only one thing mattered. Keeping Ren safe. For him, that was the goal, that was the entire story. And that’s the story I told—Finn and Ren’s and when they found their happily ever after (or for now, considering the world), that’s where it ended.

But that left a lot of really wide open stories, right? And this was my chance to share some of those stories. Here’s a little taste of what you’ll get in the box set.

 REVIEW

I have enjoyed this journey with Ren and Finn, and I am really sad to see it come to an end. It has been one thrilling adventure, packed with action, gore and a plethora of emotions.

 

This book seemed to be tamer than the others, though, with very little interaction with zombies, but I liked that it solidified the relationship between Ren and Finn, and I am so glad that they finally faced what has been brewing between them for so long now.

 

I'm not sure if it was because this was their finale or what, but I felt the ending to be a bit lacking. I was reading with vigor, waiting for the moment when the battle would be won, so I felt a bit deflated when I got to the last page and realized that was it. It was over.

 

I did like, however, that Andrews left the story open to the possibility of more, from different characters, and I hope that there will be more for this disorderly world.

CHAPTERS 16-20

Ah!!! The car and boat scenes. Dude. I loved loved these scenes. It was when we really get to see Finn and Nurrin interact and I adored writing that. The scene in the Wide Open, when the car beaks down, and Finn has to trust Nurrin to keep him safe while he fixes the tire—it was a decision born of necessity, but it’s also very telling, because Finn doesn’t do that. He doesn’t trust.

And the whole boat scene—so much tension and animosity, and that kiss—I freaking love the whole thing. It’s the first time we see some physical interaction between Nurrin and Finn, and we also see more about how the disease is combated, which I liked exploring.

Favorite lines

I bring my knee up sharply and he laughs as he rolls away then pins my legs with one of his. I’m caught, neatly splayed beneath him, and I hate it.

“Take them.”

“Screw you,” I spit.

He shifts a little, and my eyes widen. A grim smile twists his lip. “It’s one way to spend the day, Nurrin.”

 

 

MY THOUGHTS

 

I agree with EVERYTHING Nazarea said above! For me Chapter 16 was a real pivotal point in the book because it kinda set up the flow of the rest of the book and it set up some key events that took place.

It was great to see Ren and Finn interact and it was the start to their hot and cold relationship that went from filled with tension to flirty and sometimes steamy - Oh yes! that kiss :)

Finn knew how to push Ren's buttons and they got on each other's nerves, but there was a slow blossoming understanding - a trust, growing between them and it was wonderful to be a part of that.
