Review: Seduced Trilogy - Rose's Story by Kimberly Kinrade

Hello, Therians!

I recently had the pleasure of reading Kimberly Kinrade's Seduced Trilogy, Rose's Story, and WOW did I love it!! Kimberly Kinrade has fast become one of my favorite authors.

From Kiss Me In Paris to The Forbidden Trilogy, I cannot get enough of her fabulous books!

If you haven't read any of her work, do yourself a favor and get reading!!

Forbidden passions.

Deadly secrets.

A love that will stand against it all.

Rose and Derek come from different worlds. Different families. Different destinies. But nothing can stop two souls meant to be together.

Faced with supernatural threats beyond their control, and a power that could destroy everyone they care about, Rose and Derek hold onto their love.

But is love enough when the greatest threat lives inside of you?

***Recommended for 17+ due to explicit sexual content. This is a new adult paranormal romance with erotic content and includes shifters, demons and witches.***

REVIEW

This was an amazing Romeo & Juliet type, star-crossed lovers story that showed just how strong the bond of love is and how much it can endure.

What I thought was going to be another typical YA PNR read soon turned into a very sexy romance when Rose and Derek set the pages alight with their sensual and very steamy game of look but don't touch. It was enough to send me off to have a cold shower, or rather to find a very sexy shifter and a cabin with a hot tub!! I loved the sexual tension that oozed between these two characters. The heat between them sparked right off the bat and never fizzled out. It was explosive throughout and reached new heights when pain became pleasure.

I was enthralled by this story from start to finish. I wanted to scream when my eReader's battery died and I had to wait a few hours before I could go back to devouring the pages. This story is filled with mystery and so many wonderful and creepy characters - from Rose's amazing bestie to her weird, crazy mother - there was never a dull moment.

I was immediately suspicious about the attacks on the coven. For some reason I just had this feeling that Rose's mother couldn't be trusted and as the story unraveled, the more uneasy I became. I had to wonder if the O'Connors were hiding something though. They all seemed pretty great and I didn't believe that they were as terrible as the coven made them out to be, but I still kept a close eye on them. I loved that secrets were revealed slowly, giving the reader just enough information to formulate their own ideas, while still keeping them guessing.

As the story developed the darker it became. I was quite shocked at the lengths Rainbow went to, to gain power. She was despicable, selfish and greedy. My heart broke for Blake, the demon not the man. I wanted to dislike him but he showed so much emotion, that I couldn't help caring for him. He was on a mission but his love and loyalty made him think twice about what he was doing. He was torn between duty and love. If only things could have turned out differently for him. In the end the purity or his evil soul shone through.

Deceit, betrayal, loyalty, bravery, love and acceptance, this book has it all. Kinrade is a masterful storyteller. I really loved the Shakespeare references and how they tied into the chapter headings. It was a wonderful touch. I also loved that this trilogy ties in with The Forbidden Trilogy, bringing back some of my favorite characters.

This story will capture your imagination and, like the all-consuming love shared between Rose and Derek, once you've had a taste of it, you'll keep coming back for more.

Favorite quote (One of them at least!!)

"We make the choices that are right for us. Sometimes, they aren't our first choices, because those have been taken from us, or perhaps, because they were never there to begin with, but they're the best we have. We try for better, but sometimes better is just a fleeting shadow, and it belongs to someone else."
~ Blake, Seduced by Pain.

This special omnibus set
includes all three novels from
Rose's Trilogy

Liquid fire poured into me, filling me with the intimate sense of him as he leaned in to claim my lips with his own. I reached for him, needing him closer, needing to feel his flesh against mine, but my arms couldn't close the distance between us, which grew wider with each hitched breath. So close to finally feeling something real, something carnal and deep, I cried out in frustration, dropping my hands as he disappeared. My cries deepened into a frenzy of panic and my eyes flew open. I clutched my blanket and stilled myself to calm my racing heart.

Just a dream. Always just a dream.

Rose Wintersong didn't have an ordinary upbringing. Raised in what most would call a hippy commune, but what is actually a powerful coven of witches, she never questions the life fate chose for her.

Until she meets Derek O'Conner.

Derek challenges everything Rose believes and forces her to see the secrets hidden beneath the whitewashed walls of her idyllic country life.

Rose knows she should walk away, that the sexy martial arts instructor is bad news bred to create discord in her tight community... but the animal magnetism between them is impossible to fight.

Caught between the passion of first love, and the steady beat of the life she's always known, Rose must choose between the innocence of her youth or the pleasures of womanhood--but lost innocence comes at a price, and Rose harbors a dark secret that could destroy everyone she loves--including Derek.

"Hope is a fragile thing, yet strangely enduring. It hides in the crevices of pain, burrowing deep until unseen, for fear that sorrow, in its rage, will devour hope's desperate hold on the heart.

It can live there for years, silent and waiting. Or, it can be slaughtered with a word-- mankind's most powerful weapon.

They say that universes are created with words.

And with words, they are destroyed.

Just as mine has been."

In the sequel to Seduced by Innocence, Derek and Rose face even greater threats to their love as Derek fights to protect the core of his family's power while Rose struggles to control her own dark gift.

In Seduced by Power, the final book in Rose's Trilogy, Rose and Derek face the greatest threat to their love, and lives, as they are forced to make painful choices to save those they love the most.

They give everything they have to end the battle against Rose's mother and retrieve that which was stolen from them. But will it be enough to save them?

Forbidden Mind

49% of Americans believe their government officials are honest. I don't know these officials, or their supporters, but I know their secrets, and 49% of Americans are wrong.

My employers pay me well to be right, to know things others can't. But I don't know why they brought that boy in, strapped to a stretcher, barely conscious. He asked me for help when I could give none.

I'm a wealthy spy, a talented artist, a martial arts black belt, and a prisoner. They tell me that on my eighteenth birthday, I will be released, free to go to the college of my dreams. It's my eighteenth birthday, and a man in black is at my door. I know he's not here to free me.

I know, because I can read minds.

My name is Sam, and this is my story.

So begins the tale of Sam and Drake--from the time they link minds, forging a bond that leads to an unconventional romance--to their fight for survival against the corrupt, twisted organization known as 'Rent-A-Kid.'

"...a thrilling, dark and deeply romantic read that had me sitting on the edge of my seat and eagerly awaiting the next installment." ~ Refracted Light Young Adult Book Reviews

Forbidden Fire

"She escaped, but she'll never be free."

"Time held no meaning as my mind darted in and out of memories. Past and present collided to create a full-sensory collage out of my life: playing hide-n-seek with my best friends Luke--who always cheated by walking through walls when he was about to be caught--and Lucy; Mr. Caldrin critiquing my sketches and offering ideas to make them more realistic; targets changing faces, blending into the same person, their thoughts rippling through my mind like waves. Through it all, a demon stalked me from the shadows of my memories, never quite showing its face, but crouching, waiting.

And then I dreamed...."

Sam and Drake may have escaped, but they aren't free—not with a powerful Seeker after them. As Sam struggles with the ethics of her new powers and embraces a blossoming physical relationship with Drake, Lucy and Luke face challenges of their own.

With forces coalescing inside and outside the Rent-A-Kid dorms, it's only a matter of time before the fire they started forces each of them to make choices they can't undo. But will it be enough to save them?

Forbidden Life

The road to redemption begins in darkness.

A sinister force waits for them in darkness, ready to devour their powers and take their lives.

Sam's baby is the key to a lock that must never been opened. To keep her child safe, Sam will do anything.

Drake might have found a way to get his powers back and save his family, but is it too late?

Luke and Lucy uncover secrets in an organization they thought they could trust, and the lives of all Rent-A-Kid children are at stake.

In this last Forbidden Trilogy installment, the secrets to Rent-A-Kid will finally be revealed.

 REVIEW

Because I received the full trilogy to review, I'm going to give my thoughts on each book separately and then let you know what I thought overall :)

Forbidden Mind

This was a truly exciting start to a thrilling trilogy that held many possibilities.

From the start I got a real sense of who Sam was and what was important to her. Her passion for art was her life’s dream and when Headmaster Higgins tried everything in his power to derail that dream, I knew something wasn’t quite right. Why would a school, that trained students with para-powers to act as spies for some of the most important people in the world, give them a free pass into the world? The answer I got was way beyond anything I could have imagined.

This book was filled with plenty of action and heart-wrenching moments. There was a beautiful connection between Sam and Drake, with its unique twist, but I did feel they seemed to fall in love way too quickly. Perhaps the big secret that was revealed in the latter half of the book made their connection stronger, I just didn’t feel it as much as I was hoping to. Having said that, I did get that warm, tingly feeling all over when they finally met face to face and I was excited to see how their love would grow and progress as the story continued.

It was interesting to learn about all the different abilities that the student of Rent-a-Kid had. It was like something out of the X-men. Kinrade delivers an amazing, fast-paced story that sucked me in from the first page. I needed to know more about the characters, and I was routing for them every step of the way. By the end of this book I couldn’t wait to dive right into the second instalment, knowing it would be just as fantastic if not more.

I give it...

Forbidden Fire

I couldn't wait to see where Kinrade would take the story now that Sam and Drake had met and were able to escape.

The second instalment in this trilogy was even more exciting and fast paced than the first. With Sam and Drake on the run from the Seeker and his henchmen, there was nowhere for them to hide, which meant that their lives as well as their friend's were turned upside down. Without any help, I mean who would believe their story of an organization experimenting on kids with para-powers, they were pretty much on their own. The only solution would be to go after the organization themselves, and try everything in their power to help their friends. Not as easy as it may sound. Sam battles many issues...withdrawal symptoms, pregnancy and her fear of the darkness that lurks within her powers, as well as Drake's use of his own. I was glad that the romance was not all a bed of roses. Sam really struggled to come to terms with Drake's power, but that didn't stop her from loving him.

I was excited that this story involved Lucy a whole lot more. Out of all the characters, she stood out the most and I loved her carefree, kick-ass attitude. She really seemed to grow into her own in this book, and she became even more kick-ass. With the threat of her and Luke being sent to the breeding facility it was time for an uprising. I loved that Sam and Drake weren't going to be the only heroes of this story. It wasn't going to be left up to them to rush in and save the day. The kids took a stand and even though the odds were against them, they didn't back down. Even when all hope was lost.

This book adds many unsavory characters, and the truth of Sam's existence as well as her importance is finally revealed in a shocking twist. With even more action, heart-breaking surprises and a violent battle scene, this story was taken to an entire new level. It was fantastic.

It gets...

Forbidden Life

I wasn't sure how much more Kinrade could squeeze out of her character's at this point. They'd been through hell and back, and were still expected to give us an explosive conclusion to this trilogy. Well they did just that!!

Book two ended with many surprises and I was left with many questions running through my mind. What had happened to Drake? What would happen to the kids? Lucy and Luke? And who exactly were the IPI?

After learning so much about Rent-a-Kid, I had my suspicions about IPI. They seemed to come out of nowhere, and even though they offered to help, were they any different from Rent-a-Kid? What were their motives?

The fantastic thing about this story is that each characters has their own story to tell. Whether it was Sam and her continued struggle with her pregnancy as well as the disappearance of Drake, or Lucy and Luke's latest mission to stop Rent-a-Kid, there was never a lack of thrilling moments to keep the momentum going.

I liked that we got to see Sam and Drake on their own. They each had hurdles to get over and without each other to lean on it made for an enthralling read. New characters are introduced throughout this book, while a few secondary characters from the first two books are brought back to give this trilogy yet another outstanding twist.

Once again, Lucy was my hero. I just cannot get over how amazing she is. She showed such strength and depth. I was glad to see her get a bit of the romance she so desperately craved. The island she and Luke found themselves on was amazing, upping the ante. The story morphed from an X-men, spy action adventure to something out of Journey to the Center of the Earth, with fascinating beasts and mutations. I was blown away.

The tension built up with each turn of the page and when the final battle arrived I was on the edge of my seat. My heart was invested in each of the characters and I was sure I'd be left broken by the end. This is one read that should not be missed.

It gets...

The Forbidden Trilogy

As you can see from my other reviews, I was blown away by this amazing trilogy. I am truly sad to see it come to an end. I would love to see Kinrade write a few stories that branch off from this. Perhaps ones for particular characters **hint hint, wink wink**

Kinrade has a talent for creating some of the most amazing action-packed scenes, with unique plot twists that come out of nowhere and I cannot wait to read more of her work.

This trilogy will appeal to anyone who loves sci-fi and paranormal reads, but especially those X-men fanatics. (I'm one of them) :) :)

I found this trilogy just got better and better, so overall it gets...
