A deadly accident can take a life in more than one way.

Four years ago, Carlene Adams made a deadly mistake. A tragic accident derailed the future she'd hoped for, taking the life of the man she'd planned to spend forever with.

As a self-imposed penance for her solitary sin, Carlene has given up on every dream she ever had. She has committed to spend every remaining moment trying to make up for that one instance when everything changed.

Then she gets a second chance.

When Carlene meets Nick Johnson, the single kiss they share awakens the desires she shoved aside for so long. Suddenly she wants more than what she believe she deserves. Will she ever see him again? And if she does, what will that mean for her?

A thing of fate.
Leaving the life she built on regret, Carlene waits for fate to intervene. But just as she begins to believe in a fresh start, she's forced to realize a horrible truth—one with the power to send her second chance crashing before it even takes off.

Nick isn't who she thought he was. She isn't the girl he believed her to be, either. Their lives were intertwined even before they met, and if Carlene tells him the truth, she’ll risk tearing them apart—for good.

REVIEW

I really wanted to love this story from start to finish, but there were a few nagging hang-ups that just couldn’t be ignored. Firstly, it was very predictable. It moved quite quickly in the beginning, and there was a lot of hinting at the past that haunted Carlene, and the reason she found herself in her current position, which meant I never really connected with her character. Things accelerated even more when Nick entered the picture, and then suddenly the brakes were applied and that’s when I really started to enjoy this read because I finally understood the characters a bit more.

This story had a Cinderella feel to it as Carlene stepped out of the shadow of her past and into an entire new world of riches, diamonds and the limelight. But, unlike Cinderella, Carlene didn’t quite find her fairytale ending…or did she??? I’m not a huge fan of novellas and short stories, only because I find that they are either crammed with too much info, or there’s just not enough to the story; It’s almost like someone just chopped a full length novel in half. So, even though this was a great book, I felt a little cheated when it ended so abruptly.

The ending, as sudden and unexpected as it was, was a great set up for the next book, though. I am looking forward to finding out if Carlene will get her fairytale moment, or if her past will continue to stand in the way of her happiness.

REVIEW

WOW! My mind is still reeling after reading this book. It was fantastic on so many levels; a dark, gritty erotic romance with mystery and suspense, I could not stop reading.

When I first started this book I felt like I was reading a mash up of The Devil Wears Prada and 50 Shades of Grey, only Miranda Priestly was a gorgeous, enigmatic CEO named Taylor "Sexypants" Holden, and he wasn't as completely closed off as a certain Mr. Grey, although he came very close.

Having said this, I hate comparing novels, and even though much of what this book entailed reminded me of these other books, it stood out as an amazing read all on its own.

Taylor was more than messed up, and he had a dark past and carried many dark secrets, but he still showed he had a heart with the way he plucked ambitious unknowns from the street and gave them a start in his business. Shyla (Absolutely love this name) was sweet and quite courageous in the way she dived head first into her new job, although it was very different from what she was used to. I loved the fact that she had a boyfriend. In so many of these books the female MC is a single woman, and this dynamic certainly added to the drama of the story.

The complex relationship between Shyla and Taylor was filled with plenty emotion, but there was a real sense of maturity. Even though Taylor seemed to be playing head games with Shyla at first, once they admitted they wanted each other, things fell into place and they went through the motions. I do, however, wish that Shy had been a bit more forceful in her attempt to get Taylor to open up about the book she found. She walked away, only to give into her lust for him (which I can understand because their sexual chemistry was smoking) but after she left to get her head straight and he came back for her, she gave in quite easily. Out of everything that he was keeping secret, that book would have been the one thing that freaked me out the most, and I would have insisted nothing more happen between us until he explained it, and I would have reigned in my libido no matter how much I had wanted him.

This book had a few twists and turns, the biggest being the introduction of Eric. I wasn't sure what to make of him, and Taylor's hate for him spurred more questions, but I never, EVER, would have expected the events that unfolded in the latter parts of this book. It upped the ante in so many ways, and then both Taylor and Shyla's actions fueled a beautiful mess of love, acceptance, and vengeance, that only two souls connected on the highest level could ever recover from.

This book touched my heart and that ending was enough to make me scream for more! The next book cannot come fast enough.

#GrapevineBT Buzz Event: Excerpt + #Giveaway: The Billionaire Banker by Georgia Le Carre

The Billionaire Banker
by Georgia Le Carre
The Billionaire Banker  #1

Publication: November 1st, 2013
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance | Erotic Romance

Until she came ... all that he wanted ... he owned.

When Lana Bloom learns the devastating news that her mother is dying, she is faced with a terrible dilemma. The one thing that can save her is the one thing she does not have. For young and innocent Lana, the unthinkable becomes her only choice.

But when she walks through the door of that exclusive restaurant she has no idea of the seismic shift her life is about to take, for the highest bidder will not be the rich man she has accompanied. Fate drops her at the feet of the deeply mysterious and dazzlingly gorgeous American banker, Blake Law Barrington. Throbbing with raw masculinity and arrogance, this is a man who owns all that he pursues.

And now he wants her.

Available on:

Meet Blake Law Barrington!

What Blake thought and experienced when he saw Lana being mauled by the despicable Rupert Lothian ...

I should have known then.
Who was I kidding? Just sex? With her? That would never be enough.
This girl was the siren, the temptress that my father had warned me about. The one that had been specially chosen to bring me to my knees. But at that moment I was the proverbial moth flying helplessly towards the flame. I guess, I just wanted her light, more than I wanted anything else...
The brute had her pinned against a wall, his big body completely hiding her from my view. Must have only been minutes, but it was like a lifetime watching that broad back and thick neck. I had to fight the instinct to go over. Break them up. But I am a strategist, a man who knows when to pounce, how to exploit an opportunity. Not yet. Soon. Lose a battle to win the war.
A woman came and wrapped herself around me. She laid her perfectly manicured red fingernails on the lapels of my jacket and smiled slyly. I glanced down at her and shuddered. I hate it when women I don’t fancy throw themselves at me. At that precise moment Lothian moved his thick body away and I saw Lana. Flattened against the wall, her face white, mascara streaking down her face, and her lips already beginning to swell.
Our eyes met.
Fuck me, I looked into her shocked, defenceless eyes, and I did not feel lust! I did not want to take and use and discard as I had done with all the others. The only thing I registered in my body was the unfamiliar need to protect. Not myself but her. That same sensation I had experience once a long time ago as a young boy, when I had come across an injured baby bird that had fallen out of its nest. I had scooped it in my cupped hands and warmed it inside my jacket. After it died that evening I never again experienced that sensation. Until now.
Stunned by my own reaction I watched as she ran out of the room on those ridiculously high shoes of hers. And the dirty looks she got. You should have seen them. You’d have thought she stank of their bullshit. I despised my kind then.
In the corridor I saw her lurch unsteadily towards the powder room.
After a few minutes I made my excuses and went to wait for her in the corridor. What the fuck was I doing? But the rational, thinking Blake had gone numb. And another part, a secret part of me that I never let out, that I refused to even acknowledge, had come out and taken over. I crossed my arms and lounged against the wall.
When she came out, I almost did not recognise her. Underneath the layer of badly applied make-up she had the face of a schoolgirl. Hell, she better not be under-aged. That would be all my plans down the toilet. I straightened and waited for her to come up to me. She was no longer crying. Her head was held high and those indescribably turquoise eyes were proud and flashing, and she would have walked right past me too, if I had not raised a detaining finger.

An additional sneak peek inside The Billionaire Banker ...

Rupert directs his astonished, vicious eyes at Lana’s. ‘You offered yourself to him too?’ His eyes move derisively, hatefully over her.
Lana cringes with shame.
‘Does he know how much you charge?’
‘Do you doubt I will be able to afford her?’ Blake asks coldly.
Rupert shrivels the way a leech that has had salt thrown on it does. ‘This is why you invited me here, isn’t it?’
‘Yes.’
‘What a joke!’ he taunts, but his jibe lacks any real bite. ‘The great Barrington can’t find his own whore. He has to steal mine.’
‘I didn’t steal her,’ Blake notes reasonably. ‘I just offered to pay more.’
Rupert’s eyes bulge, bug-like. ‘She’s just a cheap bloody tart. I’ve just finger-fucked her out there,’ he lies maliciously, jerking his dandruff-laden head in the direction of the door.
Lana feels Blake’s hand tighten around her waist. ‘Consider it an unearned freebie, then,’ he says quietly, but there is warning in the calm words. A warning that is not lost on Rupert. The air becomes tight with tension. Lana looks from one man to the other. It is like watching two lions fighting for supremacy. But her body knows which lion she wants to win this fight.
Rupert shrugs. He knows he’d be a fool to go against a Barrington. He has much to lose. ‘If you think I’m going to fight over her you’re mistaken. Have her.’
He turns on his heel and leaves.
Blake lets go of Lana. She realizes she is trembling. She leans against the desk, hating herself, but unable to stop—nothing is more important than the money—she asks, ‘Did you…did you mean it about the money?’

REVIEW

“Love finds you. It’s not the other way around. The only choice you really have is whether or not you want to be found.”

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It started off with a bang; quite literally, and continued in much the same way for the rest of the story.

I loved Max. I’m very sarcastic and my mind is always in the gutter so I think I’d have a great time flirting with him. I really loved that he wasn’t a sweet talker. He was charming and he said what was on his mind, and even demanded what he wanted, but in a way that would probably have even the most prudish of women dropping her panties for him.

Adam I wasn’t too sure about. I could understand why Lily felt attracted to him, but he was a little boring. He also seemed to be trying too hard when he first started dating her. He was a great guy though, and far more stable than Max, but I probably would have chosen the bad boy in the end. After all, he turned out to be a pretty decent guy under all that sexual innuendo and he genuinely wanted Lily, if only she’d given him the chance.

This book had such a pleasantly surprising ending, and was so much more realistic than the usual happy ending. Don’t get me wrong, it was happy, just not in the way you’d expect.

Elizabeth Hayley is actually “Elizabeth” and “Hayley,” two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands' chagrin). They are currently getting ready to release Sex Snob, a novel centered around Lily’s roommate Amanda, and have also begun writing the sequel to Pieces of Perfect.

“Elizabeth” lives with her husband, one and a half year old daughter and nutjob of a dog. “Hayley” lives with her husband and her own crazy dog. They are about to adopt a newborn son in November. REVIEW

I'm a huge fan of Paranormal Romances, and Werewolves are my ultimate favorite paranormal creature, so when Dominic Ridolfi walked into my life, it was almost the end of me. Damn! He was one fine specimen.

But before my review turns into an ode to Dominic...

This book was exciting. I've read many Paranormal Romances, most of which include Vampires and Werewolves, and I'm always intrigued by how the author will spin the tale of these two creatures. I loved the idea of Kate being human in the beginning, not knowing her true identity, and the fact that Dominic was sent to kill her. These two were most definitely the definition of star-crossed lovers. They were the Romeo and Juliet of the Paranormal world and my heart broke a little for them with the knowledge that no matter how much they loved each other, the war between their kinds would in one way or another keep them apart. Or would it? That was the question that really spurred me on as I read this great story.

Dominic was willing to give up so much for Kate, but would she be willing to give him her heart completely? I had so much hope that they'd find each other along the way, but there were so many factors against them. Trust was a big issue, and then there was the obvious hate between their kinds, not to mention golden boy Alex. Kate also had so much to deal with as the life she knew was ripped to shreds. I did feel that she kind of took to her new life too easily. She questioned things but never really fought against them. The only part of her new life she was adamant about wanting nothing to do with was the blood drinking.

This story was an intriguing tale of forbidden love and family loyalty, as Dominic and Kate both struggled with doing what was right; what was expected of them, or following their hearts no matter the cost. It was a great read.
