Spotlight: Sarah M. Ross: Character Interview with Tessa from Echo of an Earth Angel

Hello, Therians!

Today is all about Sarah M. Ross!!!

Have you read her books??
If the answer is no, then check out all her titles below. I've included buy links.

Okay, so I was lying when I said today was all about Sarah, but I'm sure she won't mind if Tessa Copeland from her Earth Angel Trilogy, steals the limelight for a little while :)

Tessa is here to give us more insight into what went down in Echo of an Earth Angel, when she was told her life would never be the same again!! Enjoy!

18 year old Tessa Copeland barely survived the worst year of her life—in fact, it was a miracle. After making it through the tragedy that killed both of her parents, she’s left to pick up the pieces of her life. Combating the holes in her memory and the concern of her friends was hard enough, but a new talent threatens to destroy everything she’s trying to reclaim.
David Allegri didn’t mean to ruin Tessa’s life. She was the brightest soul he’d seen in centuries and he couldn’t let her die, so the fallen angel used his abilities to heal her—only he took it too far and changed Tessa forever. Now, he has to figure out a way to explain what’s happening to Tessa and somehow protect both of them from the consequences.
His choice made them targets for the Hunters, who will use any means necessary to capture their prey. Only a desperate plan can help them escape, and sacrifices will be made. Time is ticking. Will they make it, or will they be lost to the echoes of fate?

CHARACTER INTERVIEW
TESSA COPELAND

Hi Tessa,
Thanks for joining me on my blog today :)

1.       Why don’t we start off with you telling us a little more about yourself?

Oh, there’s really not that much to tell. You know, typical teenage suburban girl who almost died, spent a year in a coma, and woke up a supernatural being. You know, same ol’ same ol’…

But seriously, I’m still trying to wrap me head around who I am these days. If you would have asked me that question a year ago, it would have been simple. Sophomore girl, dating boys, playing tennis, and having fun hanging out with her friends.

Today, the question isn’t quite as simple. I’m an orphan, I’m the town freak, and I’m just trying to make sense of it all.

2.       What was the first thing that came to mind when David revealed the truth to you?

“Am I on a hidden camera TV show?”  Because seriously, David’s story was so crazy, there was no way what he was telling me could actually be true. Who would have believed him?!

Even when he presented evidence, I didn’t want to believe it, because believing it meant actually admitting I was forever changed, and I wasn’t ready to handle that.

3.       Was there ever a moment when you wondered why, if David could heal you, hadn’t he done the same for your parents?

I didn’t wonder that, because I knew from reading the medical examiner’s reports that my parents were killed instantly. Unfortunately, I knew that there was no way to save them—as much as I would have wanted David to try.

4.       Did it surprise you when you fell in love with him so quickly?

I didn’t really think I did love him so quickly. I was very sceptical and hesitant with him for a while, but as soon as I let me head stop thinking too much, my heart took over and there was no stopping it from falling. David is amazing—who wouldn’t fall for him?

5.       Do you think you could still love him, even if you found out that what he had done wasn’t with good intentions?

I don’t know. That would be hard. Trust is so important when building a relationship, if that were severed, the entire foundation would be shaky. But David is so passionate about helping people, and such an amazingly loyal friend above all else, I don’t think it’s in his nature to purposefully deceive or lie to hurt someone. At least, I’m really hoping that’s the case…

6.       Why were you so trusting of Ezekiel? Did you ever stop to question his motives?

Honestly, I trusted Ezekiel because David trusted Ezekiel. It never even occurred to me that an Arch-Angel could –or would—be someone I should be wary of.  Guess I learned my lesson the hard way!

7.       If you knew then, what you know now, would you have risked it all for David, regardless?

Yes, I think I would because David would—and did—risk it all for me.

8.       Do you still have hope that you’ll see David again?

I know, deep down with every ounce of my soul, that I will see him again. For me, it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. And if I have my way, it’ll be as soon as possible. I will do everything in my power to see that David is freed, the real wrong-doers are locked up, and the balance of good and evil is restored.

WOW! Things really have changed for you!! I do hope that you and David find your way back to each other and that those responsible for this whole mess get what they're deserving.

REVIEW

This book was quite different from the normal YA PNR books I've read.

Many of the angel based stories out there focus on the battle between heaven and hell, angels and demons, good versus evil, the fight to keep the apocalypse at bay, and although this story still had some of these elements, it was more about the betrayal and deception going on within the ranks of heaven itself. With the different type of angel factions, from Hunters to Incarnators, it was interesting and I wanted to know more.

Another thing that stood out was that the female MC, although still very much human, was in fact not and this was due to her savior being a little overzealous in the healing department. And I liked that she in the end was the one who had to do the saving, rather than the other way round, even if things didn't pan out exactly as planned.

Tessa, although not the strongest character I've met, showed great signs of becoming a powerful female MC. She was brave and didn't give up easily. I only wish I had connected with her more. I didn't really believe the love that blossomed between her and David. It all seemed to happen too fast and it fell flat. Perhaps if I had felt it more, if it had latched onto my emotions, I would have enjoyed this story more.

This book had its interesting plot twists but it lacked the depth that usually wows me. It ended on a bit of a cliffhanger and I'd love to see where Ross takes the story, because it has so much potential.

Grant had a plan: finish his Masters, get a great job at Google, and get the hell out of Georgia. He might be giving up some of the fun of his youth, but he knows his all work and no play method would be worth it when his dreams came true.
But things never go according to plan.
When temptation brings them together and tragedy tears them apart, Jillian and Grant will be forced to choose: fight for their dreams, or fight for each other.

The Patronus Series

Lucy Donovan was supposed to have a weekend of fun in the sun, celebrating her upcoming graduation from college. In a split second, everything changed. A drunk driver ended Lucy’s mortal life. Lucy opens her eyes to a world she never imagined possible and a new destiny: as a Patronus, a guardian of spirits. Adjusting to her new role and abilities while negotiating this confusing realm will test her limits and push her further than she ever dreamed she would go. From wayward spirits who don’t want her help to soul stealing vampires, and even a stuck-up British royal, Lucy must brave them all to save one spirit she can’t bear to lose. Further complicating her life is an inexplicable yet growing connection she feels to a member of her team, Max, whose mysterious behavior leaves her both confused and intrigued. Waking up dead was just the beginning of her problems. Lucy’s death is about to become the greatest adventure of her life.

Six months ago, Lucy Donovan thought that being killed by a drunk driver was the worst thing that could happen to her.
She was wrong.
Now, the person she loves most has been ripped away from her, soul held hostage, and Lucy has vowed to stop at nothing to get it back.
Part of a new team with enhanced powers, Lucy and her friends begin a quest to avenge the souls that have been stolen. Enemies of the Patronus have united, however, and a spy from within the Patronus realm is feeding the enemy their every move.
When a mission goes horribly wrong, Lucy’s soul becomes compromised. It will take a strength she didn’t know was within her to escape the darkness, return to the light and avenge the soul she loves.

Before there was Awaken, before there was “Lucy and Max”, there was just Max. And he had some issues.
A lot of issues.
Max Kensington ‘s death haunted him for years. The guilt of his sins tormented him. Unable to let go, he was sure he’d never be able to atone for all of them. But that didn’t stop him from trying.
When his reason for being is suddenly thrust back into his life, he vows to protect her at all costs. He’ll do whatever it takes to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. And this time, he’ll fight to the bitter end to capture the one thing that has alluded him—happiness.

She would read any fiction book she could get her hands on. Sarah knew it was an addiction when instead of grounding her from TV or music, her mom would take away her books as punishment (The Horror!). Her love of all things paranormal was inspired by her good friend Laurie, who convinced Sarah that books with vampires, witches, and all things shifter were amazing. After a little reluctance, she gave it a shot with the Sookie Stackhouse books, realized she was right, and the rest was history.

Sarah grew up in Pittsburgh, graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English, and taught 8th graders to love reading as much as she does for several years. REVIEW

This story, although combining all the major elements that make New Adult Contemporary Romances what they are, was quite different from others I have read in this genre.

Firstly, the female MC has a boyfriend, therefore she cannot just fall head first for the gorgeous, sexy guy who walks into her life. Secondly, this book wasn't all about their passionate relationship that is filled with plenty of hot and steamy sex.

The characters are all really great, with the exception of one particular douche bag liar. Jillian is a good girl with high values. She loves her boyfriend, or so she tells herself, so much so that she is willing to overlook his slacker attitude and the fact that she doesn't seem to be a huge priority in his life. I had to smile when he was compared to Jordan Catalano from My So-Called Life, because as he was being described, that was the first person I thought of.
There were a few moments in the story when I saw a spark of love and romance between Jillian and Christian, but otherwise I felt she was just fooling herself. I could relate to her fear of ending a long term relationship and the rut of being stuck in the "comfort zone" though.

Grant was a very sweet, down-to-earth guy. I liked that he was the IT guy, the most unlikely hero.
And I had to laugh at his annoyance at having to be called out to fix problems when the simple solution was to just restart your computer. There's a joke between my friends at work...we call out IT guy Mr. Restart, because that's all he ever tells us to do when we have a problem, much to our annoyance. So it was quite funny to see Grant's POV on the subject.
He's level headed, goal-oriented and the total opposite of Christian.

Jillian faces a few terrifying and heartbreaking times throughout this story. It was great that Grant was so understanding and he really was by her side through it all. I did think that it was a bit convenient that Christian just happened to never be available when she needed him, giving room for Jillian and Grant's relationship to blossom.

This story was fun and exciting, with just enough drama to keep it serious. I didn't necessarily connect with the characters on an emotional level, but I loved that their story was realistic.

EXCERPT

The laughter, clinking of glasses, and music from the juke box faded away. I could only hear the whooshing of my own heartbeat. I swallowed hard. Grant’s eyes lowered to watch the movement of my neck, and I imagined what it would be like for him to kiss me there like in my dream. To trace the line from my jaw with his finger or tongue down to my clavicle, dipping into that tiny hollow.
I forgot to breathe.

My leg grazed his, with just the tiniest amount of friction. I didn’t take my eyes off him, and I could see his own widen almost imperceptibly. His hand slipped under the table next to mine, hovering. He never touched me. I could feel the heat from his hand like a furnace. He was waiting for permission, a sign that I wanted and accepted his touch. My hands stayed glued to the seat beside me, but I lifted up onto the balls of my feet, causing my knee to bump into his awaiting hand.

It took but seconds for his large, strong hand to clasp the top of my leg, the pad of his thumb brushing along the soft skin inside my thigh. I looked around the table, but everyone was deep in their own conversations, and no one was paying us any attention.

Neither his hand nor my leg moved for a long time. Just the tiny swipes of his thumb, causing my breath to hitch. We didn’t look at each other as to not draw attention. He chatted casually with people at the table, while I was drawn tighter than a bow.

Finally, after an excruciatingly long time, he began to move his fingers. He ran his thumb in tiny circles on the inside of my thigh as his fingers brushed behind my knee, making a painstakingly slow ascent upward. One millimeter at a time.

Time stood still and the room around me blurred. He was still an inch or two below the hem of my shorts, but I felt like he was touching me at my core. Goosebumps rose along my skin, and I shivered.

Grant must have taken that as a good sign, because he began to very slowly—agonizingly slowly—inch his fingers further up my thigh. My muscles tightened in anticipation, knowing this was wrong but wanting nothing but his touch.  He made his way to the hem of my tiny shorts, sliding his fingers back and forth against it. Inside my thigh. Outside my thigh. Inside. Outside. In. Out.
My vision blurred, and my eyes slid shut with pleasure. I bit my bottom lip to contain the groan that threatened to escape my lips.
