#BODYANDBLOOD Blog Tour: #Giveaway and Excerpt

Hello, Therians!

It is an honor, once again, to be featuring The Survivors Series by Amanda Havard on my blog!

The Body & Blood Blog Tour is almost over!!

Have you entered the super amazing giveaway??
You could win an iPad 2 16GB pre-loaded with all three books, plus other awesome prizes!!

I'm even more excited today because I get to show off my new Book Boyfriend!!

Mark Winter **sigh** is gorgeous, sexy, mysterious, and has a killer (literally) naughty, bad boy side that I'd love to get to know better!! I'm so in love with him. If only he'd forget about all the other woman in this series. They keep giving him the run around, dammit!!

Enjoy the excerpt below. It's from Mark's POV and gives you a glimpse into just how charming my Polly can be!!

The game has changed.

Fresh from her first brush with mortality, a fragile Sadie Matthau is playing human with Cole Hardwick while the Survivors endure unimaginable tragedy. Wrought with the first deaths of their own kind, a tyrant who will torture them, and an opponent more terrifying than anyone could have foreseen, the Survivors are facing their end.
Told from three points of view, The Survivors: Body & Blood is a bloodcurdling, mind-bending, heart-stopping ride. As Sadie and the Winters uncover more enemies, more history, and more answers, they find themselves brought closer together and ripped further apart. And all the while, a haunting Alexander Raven lurks at the edge of Sadie’s lifeline, at the darkening fringes of her mind.
As the Survivors descend into chaos, Sadie realizes a painful truth: the deepest of secrets leave the darkest of marks.

Caught between a terrifying fantasy and her own grim reality, Body & Blood is the story of Sadie’s dance with her demons, future, past, and present.

EXCERPT
MARK

So I worried fiercely. Was I making a mistake in going with Sadie and leaving those two on their own?

No. No. I steeled myself. We had to do what we’d planned.

Besides, I was the strong one. They turned it into jokes and made fun of my general way of life, but it didn’t change facts. I could turn that stupid bloodlust to a nothing feeling if the right mix of other feelings distracted me. I could unlink that particularly lethal urge from all other urges.

. . . like I did later that night when a particularly attractive girl was cleaning up at the hotel bar. She was human, sure, but I was well fed and generally calm in the balmy late-summer night, and/or needing a way to escape my own mind, so she seemed fair game. After showering to get any blood, dirt, or other crime scene remnants off of me, I made my way back down to the bar. Which I knew was closed.

“I’m sorry, we’re closed,” she said as I entered the semi-enclosed area. She kept her eyes to her work.

“Oh really?” I said, slipping into a booth on the other side of the place. “Bummer. And here I was ready for a night cap.”

She laughed, still not looking in my direction. “Nightcap? It’s nearly 6 a.m.”

“Some of us have later nights than others. Surely you understand. You’re here wiping down bar counters, and I’d fare to guess this is the end of your night, not the beginning of your morning,” I said, and I added the charm. The Charm. The one a girl hears in a boy’s voice, and it isn’t a cheesy pick up line, and it doesn’t involve telling a girl she’s beautiful in the first seven seconds of knowing her, and it doesn’t involve anything definable in the least. It’s just charm. Strangeness “and charm. That’s what gets them. Every time.

She looked up. It wasn’t ever what I said. It was the way I said it.

“You have a point,” she said.

I got to my feet. “Well, sorry to bother you. I guess I just travel so much I get spoiled by 24-hour establishments. I can fend for myself in the minibar. You have a good night, cher.” Cher. The familiar colloquialism I picked up — in er, New Orleans — that some people understood and some people didn’t, but somehow the meaning was clear: A casual, less demeaning/condescending/pick-something version of “sweetheart” or something like it. And it always worked.

I turned and headed for the door.

“Wait,” she said. I smiled and then exhaled, regaining the cool before I turned around. Game on. “You can stay. If you want. I could use the company.”

Hook. Line. Sinker.

REVIEW
Oh. My. Gosh! This book was AMAZING!!

First off, I loved that it was told from different POV's. Although I enjoyed knowing everything from Sadie's POV before, it was a nice change to get a behind-the-scenes look at a few of the other characters.

I especially loved when it was Mark's turn. From the first time he appeared in this story I felt drawn to this dark, bad boy. He may have had a don't care attitude at times but he had more layers than most other characters. So getting to see things from his POV was fun and exciting. And boy, oh boy, would I have done anything to swap places with Sam. The thing that stood out for me the most was that out of all the supernaturals, even though he was hotheaded at times, he was probably the one with the most control; whether it was over a thirst for blood or power.

This story started with such an unexpected tragedy and my heart hurt for Sadie in so many ways. This only added to her despair but it also fueled her need to find answers. Being turned on by her family gave her another reality check and that's when Warrior Sadie arrived. For all her selfish behavior in the past it was a great to have her stand up for the people who needed her when it was most important. As the mystery of Alexander Raven continued to unravel and the pieces started to fall into place, it gave me hope that maybe the war would be avoided. But as things go with the Raven, the mystery was an unending loop that left a trail of devastation. It felt like every time they got closer to the truth, some new bit of information would derail their plans. When they finally seemed to have the upper hand, Raven was always there to remind them that he was in control. Even his little peace-offering was a reminder.

It seemed that the mystery of who Sadie was had finally been solved, but only just. There were still pieces missing from that particular puzzle. However everything came to light when the final mystery, Lizzie's cipher, gave Sadie the answers she needed. Thanks to Raven's parting gift, Sadie was able see who the real monster was and she was able to make peace with who she really was.

As all the complexities of this story came to a head, the one thing Sadie had been looking for all along appeared to her. And even though it was shocking, I could fully understand why she ran, this time to the only person who could give her what she wanted, in every way.

Once again Havard delivers a shocking ending that has me wanting for more!
Just thinking about it sends a chill up my spine.

REVIEW

With an amazing start to this series I eagerly dove right into book 2, and I'm so thrilled that it lived up to my every expectation. It delivered an exciting plot, with all the twists and turns, never giving too much away, but just enough to keep me enthralled.

As Sadie continued with her inner turmoil, she faced greater threats than ever before. The war loomed and she still had to put up with the hatred of her own kind. Then there's her continued struggle with her love for a monster. Add to that, the changes to her powers that give her a front row view of the chaos and destruction caused by her kin, and finally the point of origin; the one pulling all the strings. It's no wonder the girl seemed like a bit of a nutter at times.

I felt more settled in the story, having gotten to know all the characters in book 1, and it felt like I was right alongside them as they searched for ways to end the war that threatened to end the Survivors, as well as the truth to the many lies that had been told for centuries. Even if the Survivors believed they were protecting their own, it felt wrong. There were just too many half-truths and secrets.

As Sadie and her companions delved deeper and deeper into the origin of the Survivors, the darker this story became. And I have to admit that it crept under my skin to the point where I felt the need to sleep with the lights on. There was a eeriness to the story that just gave me the chills.

I was excited to see Cole Hardwick hadn't disappeared completely, although I wouldn't have blamed him if he had, and every time I thought of him I couldn't stop myself from hating Sadie a little. I hated how she used him. Even when her powers made her privy to his most inner feelings and thoughts, she still had this selfish disregard for him. I wish she had just ended it once and for all, but when this never happened I had to wonder if Cole played a bigger role in the story. Her actions at the end were a little puzzling, and again I was shocked at her selfishness. All she knew was to run, which was a sad thing for her, but I wish she had been tougher and was willing to stand up with everyone instead of always expecting them to pick up the pieces, while giving false hope to others.

Of course, I still hadn't completely warmed up to Everett by the end of this book. He was a little too moody and for someone who had so much physical strength, he lacked in confidence when it came to his relationship with Sadie. However, I cannot fault him completely. He did really care for her, and some of the more private moments spent with her were sweet.

If there's something Havard does well, it is cliffhangers! There is no way that anyone reading this book won't immediately grab a copy of her next book as soon as it's released. (Lucky for us, today is that day!!) The ending held so much promise but also so much heartache for at least one if not more of the characters who've latched onto my soul.

It gets a well deserving...

REVIEW
This book surprised me in every way. I didn't read the entire blurb ( I hardly ever do for fear of it giving to much away ), so I really thought it was a book about 14 survivors of the Salem Witch Trials, but it was so much more. It was the story of one woman's struggles to find herself. One woman who dared to ask questions, who dared to want more, even if that meant finding the key to her own mortality.

I quickly came to expect the unexpected. There was never a moment when I could surmise what would happen next. From what I thought would be another love story between a human and paranormal creature, grew into so much more with the addition of the Winters and the realization that there was far more to this world than what Sadie knew and believed to be true.

I fell hopelessly in love with Cole Hardwick. He was such the perfect gentleman. Even though I would have liked to see more of him, and at times I had to wonder what his true purpose was, I did grasp the fact that he was Sadie's "human" lifeline. My heart broke for the thoughts he projected to Sadie even when he knew it was hopeless. He was an open book, in his own mind, and his loyalty to her was very endearing.

There were a few times when I found myself comparing this book to a few others in this genre, but it had enough unique plot twists and characters for me to over look the similarities. The exciting thing about this story was the plethora of supernatural beings that emerged. If you're tired of the usual vampire story, this is one book that needs to be read. It took the vampire myth and dissected it, until what you thought you knew meant nothing, and that made way for are entire new breed of vampire.

The Winters were an electrifying group. I loved learning about their unique talents, some I had never heard of or could never have even imagined until reading this book. I especially loved Ginny. She was fun and bubbly.
Mark was a mystery, one I couldn't wait to unravel. Everett...hmm...I still don't know if I like him or not. The chemistry between him and Sadie was instantaneous, but I just didn't believe it. It just didn't feel right. Yes, they had, and still have, some major obstacles standing in their way but it was more than that. I didn't warm to him as much as I did some of the other characters. Maybe I was just holding out hope for poor Cole. I guess only time and the next book will tell.

As for Sadie, I can only imagine that one of the hardest things she'd ever had to do was to go back and face her family. But she stayed loyal and when different threats arose, she knew what had to be done, no matter how difficult it would be. I only wish that some of the Survivors had seen her loyalty for what it was, rather than dismissing it as easily as they had.

Havard has a fantastic way of keeping the mystery that is Sadie alive, giving just enough away to keep you in suspense. As the story unfolded, so the question of who, or more accurately what she was, was never far from my mind. And even though is was clear that she wasn't human, her need to fit in and the internal struggle to find peace was something we can all relate to, in some way or another.

This book was exciting start to this series, with many twists and turns that kept the story one step ahead of it's reader at all times. I cannot wait to dive straight into book 2.
