REVIEW

This was one hot, seductive read!

This is probably the first time I've read of a modern day pirate, and it was thrilling from start to end. Captain Crow certainly was a charming bad boy who was able to capture Cora's heart with a simple smile, or perhaps it was his spankings that did the trick. I loved that Phoenix mixed mythology with mobsters, adding some fantastic twists to this tale that kept me on the edge of my seat.

As the Captain played his game against some of the most venomous characters I've had the pleasure of meeting, I was enthralled. My pulse raced, my heart was in my throat and I could only hope that both Cora and James would make it to the end in one piece.

This book was a filled with love, passion, and sexy sensuality. It was dark and gritty, sparing no details when it came to the villainous lifestyle of the underground world Cora and the Captain were a part of. It was a compelling read that was fast-paced and suspenseful. A definite must read if you are looking for a bit of a darker romance. A great read!

A story filled with passion and danger, this was an explosive read that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.

The chemistry between Ava and Dmitri was smoking hot and sparked with desire each and every moment they were together; even when they (or more accurately, he) were pretending there were no feelings involved. I loved getting glimpses into their past, being able to relive the special moments that brought them together and to watch their relationship develop from friendship into something more sensual and emotional. As much as Dmitri tried to deny that there was something between them, his actions, no matter how tiny, portrayed a completely different story.

Ava is one feisty character that one just cannot help loving. Her, somewhat, dramatic responses to certain situations was quite comical and added a lightness to a book filled with darkness. Having said that, this book stayed true to the very underworld it encapsulated, raw and gritty, some of the events that unfolded were quite scary and shocking, only adding to the authenticity.

With many twists and surprises, there was never a dull moment and I was enthralled the entire time. Phoenix is a masterful writer who captures the essence of her characters in much the same way she captures the attention and hearts of her readers, with perfection.

Robby broke the silence that followed. “What just happened?”

The buzz had regained through the room. Curiosity punctuated with questions and glances at Ava that she ignored.

“I need to go,” she whispered to no one in particular.

But she grabbed Robby’s hand and dragged him along with her through the maze of rooms, down the seemingly endless corridors. Her heels clacked in sync with the tempo of her pounding heart. It was his turn to run to keep up.

Robby frowned. “But what—?”

The crease between his brows deepened. More lines appeared at the corners of his mouth. His gaze shot past her to the hallway leading to John Paul’s office, then back down to her.

“Tell me who that was first.”

His hand slipped from her grasp. She took a step back and his eyes narrowed.

“I can’t. I can’t tell you anything.”
