REVIEW I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and I was excited to get the chance to read this one, but I have to admit that I started off not really enjoying the story. There was just something lacking, something that kept me detached from the characters and their emotions. It was only when Will went after Timothy that I truly got into the story. It was at this point that things turned more sinister, there was a higher level of suspense and it actually became more and more thrilling. I wasn't sure if I should feel sorry for Steven or if I should hate him for what he did to Kay. He seemed like such a lost soul, desperate to hold onto the on thing he truly loved. His actions were disturbing to say the least, but I could still see the side of him who thought he was doing to right thing. He truly was a psycho! The idea of someone having so much power and control over others is quite terrifying, and the anguish Kay and even Timothy experienced while trying to find the truth, to escape the prison in their own minds was terrible. I'm just glad that they both had the sense to look deeper, and to pull themselves free of Vyberdex's clutches. This book may have started off slow, but it became intense, turning into a really great read.

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT

Tyff, please tell us about yourself using 3 verbs, 1 quirk and a pop culture addiction.
Striving, Stressing, Understanding, I won’t drink water from the bathroom because I think it has germs in it, and I love anime so much I could watch it all day every day.

What author/reader conventions have you attended in the last 3 years-which was your favorite & why? I have attended ConCarolinas twice, UtopYA, Authors After Dark, and Indie Girl Con. ConCarolina’s has been my favorite so far.

What’s the last song you listened to? I have no idea. It was some Trance song on Pandora.

How do you come up with character names?  How do you come up with novel titles? Names and titles are important to me. I do a search for meanings that fit my characters. In Blood and Shattered Glass, the main character’s name is Trista, the female version of Tristan (like Tristan and Isolde). I chose it because Trista is very very sad, though I can’t tell you why. Tristan and Isolde is a sad story.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Don’t give up. When you get to the middle of your first book and it’s hard and you’re tired and you feel like it’s shit and you’re shit and what the hell is this shit?! Keep going, because when you get to the end you’ll never be the same person again. You’ll never write a book the same way again, because you’re no longer a beginner. You’re an accomplished writer.

REVIEW

I was extremely intrigued by this book but I will admit that it started off a little slow, and I was a little confused by certain aspects of the story in the beginning. Although, I think that was kind of the aim. Not necessarily to confuse the reader, but to keep them guessing, and just when I thought I had a grasp on who was what to whom in this story, Kemp added another twist that totally derailed my thoughts.

I did enjoy the anticipation and suspense that grew as the story developed and once I really got into it, and it started flowing better, I was on the edge of my seat as this nail-biting psychological thriller unraveled a number of surprising plot twists.

By the last few chapters I was holding by breath as the characters fought for their sanity and freedom. This book was cleverly written, giving away just enough to keep me reading, without being too predictable. You will gasp in shock and horror, as Kemp throws curveball after curveball, and by the end of this book you will feel like you have walked every step of the way with these characters. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
