is a brilliant continuation of The Devil’s Playground, with just as much angst,
heartache and emotion.
With the way
things ended in the first book I could not wait to dive right back into the
story. Was Brad responsible for Meredith’s injury? How much did he know? These
questions were at the forefront of my mind, and as this story developed, the
more I had to wonder about how sinister Brad’s actions were. He seemed far too
nervous, and as much as he tried to be a good, loving husband, he didn’t have
me fooled one bit. He was an even bigger douche bag this time around. Only looking
out for himself, his selfish ways were despicable.
The way he
treated Meredith gave me reason to love Vincent all the more, and it also made
me feel better about the affair that was started in book one. As I said in my
review of The Devil’s Playground, I don’t condone cheating or affairs, but
sometimes one finds themselves in a relationship that is toxic and the need to
break out, the need for acceptance is so great, and when someone as wonderful
as Vince comes along, why the hell not!? I also believe that sometimes the
right person comes along at the wrong time, but that doesn’t mean you have to let
them go. Of course, Vince took the better route, however, I wonder if things
would have been different if Meredith hadn’t had the “accident”.
Anyway, enough
about me trying to justify the twisted but beautiful relationship between
Meredith and Vincent – Freed added so much to this story by bringing the POV of
both Brad and Vincent to the forefront, and then allowing Meredith to slowly
get back into the game as she uncovered the truth. The thing about this book
was that it wasn’t so much about the forbidden relationship, but more about
healing, strength and courage. Meredith was able to finally come to terms with
not only her feelings for Vince, but was also able to stand up to Brad once and
for all. The latter deserved so much more than he got, especially with how
things went down with Dharma, but his wife had suffered enough in her time with
him and she was the bigger person, which I loved.

read!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Eliza Freed graduated from Rutgers University and returned to her hometown in rural South Jersey. Her mother encouraged her to take some time and find herself. After three months of searching, she began to bounce checks and her neighbors began to talk; her mother told her to find a job.
She settled into Corporate America, learning systems and practices and the bureaucracy that slows them. Eliza quickly discovered her creativity and gift for story telling as a corporate trainer and spent years perfecting her presentation skills and studying diversity. It’s during this time she became an avid observer of the characters we meet and the heartaches we endure. Her years of study have taught her laughter is the key to survival, even when it’s completely inappropriate.
She currently lives in New Jersey with her family and a misbehaving beagle named Odin. An avid swimmer, if Eliza is not with her family and friends, she’d rather be underwater. While she enjoys many genres, she has always been a sucker for a love story…the more screwed up the better.
