SYNOPSIS ( Taken from Goodreads )

Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.

REVIEW

I was extremely excited when my request for this book was accepted. I have heard great things about it, and I've been anticipating it's release.

The very idea of murderous mermaids is fantastic! Yes, the mermaids in this book are nothing like Ariel from The Little Mermaid. They won't think twice about sucking the life right out of you.

It was refreshing to read a YA Paranormal Romance told from the male character's POV, I loved it. For once we get to feel every emotion he experiences throughout the book, we get to know his inner most fears and desires. Calder White is of course gorgeous and charming and it would be difficult for any girl not to fall for him, so it was again refreshing to have Lily find his stalkerish behaviour a little weird. Even though she secretly feels something for him, she is always pushing the idea out of her mind, letting her head take the lead rather than her heart. She's not a clumsy-by-nature kind of girl, but as most of us can relate with, when there is a handsome guy around, she sometimes loses her co-ords making her seem awkward.

My heart went out to Calder as he struggles with what is right and what is wrong. Family loyalty and the love for a girl he barely knows. Calder hates his life - the constant killing of humans just to survive - and the revenge plot against the Hancock family is what finally draws him over the edge. He is nothing like his sisters, and he wants nothing more than to break the bond that ties them together.

There are beautiful moments shared between Calder and Lily throughout the book. I especially loved a particular scene that takes place in a cave just after Lily discovers the truth about Calder ( Sorry guys, can't say more than that. You'll just have to read the book to see what I mean! )

Over all this book flowed so well off the page. Each character is so well written and defined that there was never a moment when I wondered what their role was, or why they were even in the story in the first place. Calder's evil sisters are sinister, but there was also this emotional "human" element to them that made them endearing.

I really enjoyed reading Lies Beneath, it offered everything I was expecting and so much more. Readers of Paranormal Romances will love every second spent in the world of Calder and Lily.

It gets...
