We hope you're ready to be transported by Amalie Howard's THE FALLEN PRINCE, a Young Adult Science Fiction novel and the sequel to THE ALMOST GIRL! Publishers Weekly calls the first in the series “a high-octane thriller.” Grab your copy of this amazing novel today!
Riven has fought for a hard-won peace in her world, and has come to shaky terms with who and what she is—a human with cyborg DNA. Now that the rightful ruler of Neospes has been reinstated, Riven is on the hunt for her father in the Otherworld to bring him to justice for his crimes against her people.
But when she receives an unwelcome visit from two former allies, she knows that trouble is brewing once again in Neospes. The army has been decimated and there are precious few left to fight this mysterious new threat.
To muster a first line of defense, her people need help from the one person Riven loathes most—her father. But what he wants in return is her complete surrender.
And now Riven must choose: save Neospes or save herself.
We zoom off in opposite directions and I watch as the ship hovers into stealth mode, mirroring the stone face of the mountain behind it. With my enhanced vision, I can see the slight haze of its outline, but if I didn’t already know it was there, it’d be undetectable. After stashing the bike on the far side of a large boulder, I crouch down and wait. The instrument panel on my wrist says it’s nearly a hundred degrees and climbing, but the suit does its job, wicking moisture away from my body and keeping me cool. I scan the horizon, but there’s nothing but hazy bands of heat flickering through the morning sunlight. I finger the hilts of my ninjatas. Something is off. It’s too quiet.
“See anything?” Bass’s voice buzzes in my ear.
“Not a thing.”
“Weird, right? I mean, you’d think we’d see something. A beetle or a bug, but it’s all gravel.” I glance down at a small round orb and prod it with my toe. It rolls to the side and three gaping holes stare up at me. It’s not gravel. It’s a skull.
Add bones to the list, I think as a similar white sphere catches my attention—this one slightly bigger than the first. Frowning, I squint through the reflection of the sun and kick at the pebbles beneath my feet. A dozen more skulls roll out along with limb bones of all sizes—all picked clean.
Praise for THE FALLEN PRINCE:
"[P]acked with action . . . Imagery is the highlight of this book."—VOYA
“A parallel-dimension–jumping cyborg soldier must make questionable alliances to save her country from an existential threat in this sequel to The Almost Girl. [O]ffers a solid conclusion.” —Kirkus Reviews
“This sequel to The Almost Girl was everything I wanted: non-stop action, smart science, new and intriguing characters, and a satisfying romance. I couldn’t put it down!” —Page Morgan, author of The Beautiful and the Cursed
“[T]he next step in a dark, clever and thrilling scorched-earth, world-hopping adventure.” —Jet Black Ink
This was a riveting, fast-paced thriller that will delight sci-fi and dystopian fans alike. With complex characters, a fascinating world, and terrifying robotic creatures, there was no end to the action and adventure.
I was first introduced to Howard with her Aquarathi series, and I have been a fan ever since. Unfortunately, I haven’t read The Almost Girl, yet but that didn’t stop me from loving every second of this story. Howard gives enough backstory so that I wasn't completely in the dark about Riven and the events that led up to this book, and I am quite excited to dive into the first book to see it all play out.
Although this story is fiction, it is quite interesting but also scary to think that perhaps in the near future we could be facing a world filled with cyborgs, and if this series is anything to go by, it's going to be horrific but also so amazing.
Riven is a kickass character who is equally rebellious as she is loyal. Not only did she have to deal with the destruction of her world, but also her heart, as Caden had to do what was right for his people. I loved seeing her in action. She was a warrior - a real force to be reckoned with, but she also had heart, and stood up for everything she believed in.
This book was perfect in every way, playing out like a movie in my head as I read it. It enthralled me to no end, with its intensity, intrigue and emotion. A spectacular read!
And don’t miss the first book in The Riven Chronicles Series!
