Rock stars, bacon sandwiches, secret holidays, smart girls, a Disney princess and a scarlet haired rock chick. Isn't it time you met the Blue Phoenix boys?

The Amazon bestselling Blue Phoenix rock romance series is about a UK rock band. There are six books in the series, three interconnected feature lead singer Dylan and Sky and three standalones feature the other band members.

Check out the BIG SALE on the series. All books are available on Kindle Unlimited.

Jem and Ruby’s story is the fourth book in the Blue Phoenix series. It can be read as a standalone but contains minor spoilers for the other books in the series.

This is also the book where we get to know Ruby Riot better. Find out about Jax before you meet him in his own book, Cadence on November 5th

"Our demons don't want to play but they sure as hell recognise each other"

Jem Jones, the self-destructive Blue Phoenix lead guitarist, meets the fierce and volatile Ruby, lead singer of Ruby Riot, in an intense and emotionally charged story of love, redemption, and finding a second chance in life.

Three attempts at staying clean after rehab and Jem Jones, Blue Phoenix guitarist, is determined this time he'll succeed. Haunted by his recent past, Jem throws himself into the one addiction he still has left: music. With Blue Phoenix on a break, he looks elsewhere for a place to channel his creativity and discovers up-and-coming band Ruby Riot.

For lead singer, Ruby, breaking into the music scene could break the cycle of abuse that's controlled her life since she was a child. Finding release through music, the growing success of the band has set Ruby on the path to regaining her identity and self-esteem.

Ruby Riot brings Jem and Ruby together, but Ruby's tangled personal life pushes her closer to a reluctant Jem. Living and touring together, Jem and Ruby discover they have more in common than their passion for music. Can this understanding break down the carefully constructed barriers they're trapped behind? Or is loving somebody too big a risk to take?

When Jem's past slams into his present, he has to face the reality behind what made him the man he is and why he hurts the people he wants to love.

And as Ruby reaches out to help Jem, she discovers trying to fix somebody comes with the risk of getting cut by one of their shattered pieces.

1. Ruby’s name is actually Tuesday which amuses Jem when he discovers this. Later she tells Jem her brother gave her the nickname when she was a child and she can’t listen to the song anymore.

“Sorry for playing it to you.” His lips move against my skin as he speaks, not helping with the desire for his hands to move to other parts of my body.

“You didn’t know.”

“But it is you. So much you.”

“I have a line from the song tattooed on my ribs, about how yesterday doesn’t matter because it’s gone. I wish I’d never done that.”

“You tried to show me once,” he whispers into my hair.

“What? When?”

Jem laughs. “You were drunk. I didn’t see much, don’t worry.”

My cheeks heat and blushing isn’t something I do. I grasp at a memory triggered by his words. The kitchen. Offering myself. Jem saying no. I’m surprised when tears spring to my eyes. Why? Because he said no? No, because he treated me with the respect I didn’t have for myself.

Ruby Tuesday ~ The Rolling Stones

2. There is friction between Jax and Jem around Ruby as Jax is very protective of her, and has some confusing feelings about the lead singer of Ruby Riot.

"That song. Jax sings it around Ruby a lot and I've yet to figure out whether he's telling her something. I'm pretty sure this kid is torn between not accepting her involvement with me, and the need to hide this because of the role I have in his life." ~ Jem

Ruby ~ Kaiser Chiefs

3. Slash is one of Jem's heroes and this track is a good demonstration of why (I'm not a fan of long guitar solos myself, but Jem likes them and has created a few of his own).

November Rain ~ Guns n’ Roses

4. Both characters struggle to come to terms with their pasts and it takes some time for them to realise they’ve found love and not something else that will hurt them

Ruby’s creeping into my life; the way the morning sun shines through the curtains and crosses the bed until eventually the light shines in your face and you can’t hide anymore. The brightness is outside, waiting. You just have to get up and let the warmth in.

Madness ~ Muse

5.  One song referenced a few times through the series is ‘Rising’, written by Jem and Dylan. Jem now has some of the lyrics tattooed on his arm. He also mentions the song when he talks to Ruby about a condition they share where they ‘see’ music as colour.

Cadence Book Blurb (Ruby Riot, #1):
Tegan Hughes joins Blue Phoenix and Ruby Riot on tour, and drummer Bryn isn’t the only one who notices his little sister isn’t a kid anymore.

Jax Lewis is the guitarist for Ruby Riot and the band are rising to success. He’s hot property and loving every minute of his new found fame. Now, he’s on tour supporting Blue Phoenix and living his rock star life to the full. Until Tegan walks into his world and puts the brakes on.

Tegan Hughes is taking a year out and has her sights set on touring Europe with her big brother’s band. Blue Phoenix drummer, Bryn isn’t happy when his sister arrives unannounced at his hotel in Lisbon, but Tegan isn’t the type of person to take no as an answer.

With her big brother breathing down their necks, Jax and Tegan attempt to keep a handle on their growing attraction but that proves harder than they thought. Jax is used to getting whoever and whatever he wants and after kissing Tegan once, he knows one thing…he wants more.

But Tegan isn’t rock star girlfriend material. She has ambitions of her own and refuses to let anything stand in the way of her plans. And when Jax and Tegan’s relationship becomes public knowledge life becomes a hell of a lot more complicated.

Ruby Riot is a spin-off from the Blue Phoenix books but the two series can be read separately. All the Ruby Riot books are standalone.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Lisa is an Amazon bestselling author of contemporary and paranormal romance. She is originally from the UK and moved to Australia in 2001. She now lives in Perth, Western Australia with her husband, three children, and Weimaraner, Tilly, who often makes appearances on Lisa’s social media.

Lisa’s first publication was a moving poem about the rain, followed by a suspenseful story about shoes. Following these successes at nine years old there was a long gap in her writing career, until she published her first book in 2013.

In the past, Lisa worked as an English teacher in France, as an advertising copywriter in England, and ran her own business in Australia. Now she spends her days with imaginary rock stars.

She lived in Europe as a child and also travelled when she left university. This has given Lisa stories which would sound far-fetched if she wrote them down, and maybe one day she will. These days, Lisa is happy in her writing cave, under Tilly’s supervision.
