SHAKEN NOT STIRRED (Mixology Series, Book 1)
Finding the perfect guy is like mixing the perfect drink. It's all about the taste and presentation.
Maddy's gone off the deep end, at least that's what her family thinks when she handles her med school rejections by moving to the Outer Banks. It doesn't help that she's paying her bills by bartending and is sharing walls with two guys, even if one of them is her childhood best friend.
Her choice of men seems more balanced on the surface—Colin is driven, sexy, and gainfully employed, but she can't help spending her Thursday nights searching for the perfect drink for Lyle, whose music captivates her with its haunting lyrics. Maddy believes everyone has a perfect drink—and finding Lyle's isn't a challenge she's willing to lose.
REVIEW
This was a very exciting story and quite different from the
usual contemporary romance.
Maddy was a strong character and I took an instant liking to
her. Her friendship with Macon and Brody was hilarious and felt so very real. I
loved that they could joke with her about her guy issues but they also turned
all big brother protective when her guy issues literally came knocking.
I was wondering if there could be more between Maddy and
Macon, and for a second I thought this story was going to take that turn, but I’m
so happy it didn’t. For once, there was no playing back and forth between guys.
Even though she had her eye on Lyle, when she was with Colin and their
relationship developed into more than just a casual fling, she was solely
focused on him.
But that doesn’t mean this story was boring or one dimensional
in any way. Maddy and Colin’s relationship had lots of ups and downs and it was
interesting to see how they dealt with their problems. Again, everything about
this couple was realistic. I loved the ending, when the real reason for Maddy’s
attraction to Lyle came to light. It was quite surprising and added a pleasant
twist.
I also liked the addition of Carly. It seemed like Maddy
only felt comfortable with people of the opposite sex, but she really seemed to
bond with Carly, and it was nice having another female voice amongst all the
testosterone.
If you’re look for a quick, fun read that will make you
laugh and will feed your craving for romance, this is definitely a book you
need to read. I enjoyed every second of it.
